What makes a laptop DJ and a $2,400.00 Bose system sound...
What makes a laptop DJ and a Bose F1 Model 812 | Flexible Array System Loudspeaker and Subwoofer sound correct?F1 Model 812 enclosureF1 Model 812: High impact composite materialsFrequency response (-3 dB): 52 Hz - 16kHzFrequency range (-10 dB): 43 Hz - 20 kHzNominal dispersion: C: 100° H x 40° VMaximum SPL @ 1 m: 132 dB SPL (peak)Rated power: 1,000 WF1 Subwoofer enclosureF1 Subwoofer: Wood cabinet with high impact composite end capsFrequency response (-3 dB): 40 Hz - 100 HzFrequency range (-10 dB): 34 Hz - 112 HzMaximum SPL @ 1 m: 130 dB SPL (peak 6 dB CF)Rated power: 1,000 WWell if you or a family member is privy to own such a system, and you have a CTIA headset jack on your Dell (or other branded laptop); then this cable will correct the loss of one channel and correct the stereo output that your Bose T1 (ToneMatch) expects on channel 4/5.MUYHSMFF startech{dot}comHeadset adapter for headsets with separate headphone / microphone plugs - 3.5mm 4 position to 2x 3 position 3.5mm M/FSpecial Notes / RequirementsNote 3.5 mm Mini-Jack (4 position) male is configured per CTIA StandardThe TLDR:After my BiL contacted Bose and explained that his subwoofer was not working like the Demo unit he has witnessed, Bose sent him a new F1 Sub. He hooked this new sub up and had the same issue as before and called me in to have a poke. I read all the PDF's that Bose had on their website and agreed with my BiL that something was amiss in the setup guide and was terribly misleading. After we tested 3 different hookups of various sound cards (T1 USB, Creative Labs USB, and an Esinkin Bluetooth adapter(W29-ESK001)) to the F1/812 Bose system through the ToneMatch and found all was as expected, we pretty much decided that there was a hardware or software problem with the Dell laptop. But I was not fully satisfied and the BiL wanted a familiar hookup to keep the gigs simple. After reading most of the reviews here after scouring the web for anyBODY with a similar issue I decided to be the guinea pig and buy this inexpensive breakout cable to see if it solved the issue. The issue is that the Dell's audio out is a headset jack Female TRRS, both mic and stereo: The TRS stereo to RCA L/R cable he used for years on the Bose L1 Model II, did not work with the Bose F1 812 combo.. This cable mated the CTIA female out and keeps the signal on the correct pins and delivers exactly what the ToneMatch needs to thus supply the Bose F1 812 loudspeaker/sub combo. You shouldn't have to put your ear to a 1000 watt subwoofer EVER or wonder if it's working. Month later we are LOL'in at ourselves. Get this cable.

It's small, inexpensive, and great!
I got the new 2013 iMac to replace my monster of a Windows rig that I built 6 years ago. Figured I'd try out a Mac. I knew it would force a lot of upgrades and replacements of peripherals, but I did not know that the new iMacs use the "smart plug" 3.5mm audio jack that combines the audio output (headphones) and input (mic) into one, single jack. This made my Windows style headset useless, but more than that it made my audio system setup inoperable. I have my computer connected to my 5.1 surround sound stereo system, both for output listening to iTunes and other audio as well as input from other devices connected to the stereo for recording. I needed a solution that would undo Apple's "bright idea" of combining all audio functions into one plug. I can understand such decisions when space is a premium such as laptops, notebooks, cell phones, and tablets... but a 27" desktop iMac computer??? Really?Anyway, this little gadget does the trick! It splits out the audio output from the audio input beautifully and once again gives us 2 different jacks serving different functions to plug in our various audio devices. This is NOT an audio output splitter or y-adapter. You would not plug in 2 headphone into this. Instead, it once again gives us a plug for a microphone and a second plug for a headphone. I was a little worried that this StarTech adapter would not allow stereo sound, but it does. Very nice! It's a great product!Just FYI, I've done this with my system. After plugging the StarTech jack in, I plugged an 3.5mm stereo audio y-adapter into the headphone jack to split the audio output so that I could plug my stereo system and my headphones into the iMac and hear sound from both. It works great! There is a little picture of a microphone on one of the StarTech jacks, and a little picture of headphones on the other jack. It's a little hard to see since it's all the same color, black, but that's fine. I then plugged in the microphone jack from my headset into the StarTech microphone jack. Once you have all the connections plugged in you may need to re-boot or re-start your computer so that the "smart plug" notices that there is now a microphone attached and allows sound to be inputed into the iMac and the mic to work. Also, just in case you are new to the iMac like me, it seems the the iMac's built in mic continues to function even if headphones are plugged into the headphone jack.

Great inexpensive alternative to Turtle Beach equivalent
I bought this to replace the official Turtle Beach 4 pole to two 3 pole adapter my son needed for his chat headset. My son bought a Turtle Beach chat headset that said it worked on Xbox One and PC. Well, it only has one 4 pole connector. So if you didn't have a newer xbox one controller with the headphone style jack, which we don't, your outta luck on xbox. And on PC you needed the splitter I am reviewing. So out of the box, this headset did not work on anything in my house. So I initially bought the Turtle Beach adapter which was ludicrously overpriced and they wanted almost the same amount to ship it. Think I paid $18 in all to Turtle Beach to get their part almost 10 days later. And there part failed in about a year. So now I have this part. Prime hot it to me on a Sunday and it was under $8 I think. It was actually less cause I had some amazon rewards Visa points I used toward the purchase. So far, part is working good on the headset with my son's PC.I am probably being unfair and rating my overall Amazon experience vs Turtle Beach experience. However, the buying experience is part of it and figured it was worth sharing.
