Nite Ize SLG-06-02 SpotLit Clip-On LED Light with Carabiner, Weather Resistant, Eco Pkg, White

I bought this so I could easily locate my dog at the dog park during low light/night conditions. This works out great when winter comes and the sun starts going down about the time I get home from work. The park I take my dog to, doesn't have the best of lighting so it's hard to track her late evening/night. I have a very energetic gray pitbull that needs her time at the park to burn off energy, otherwise she loses her mind at home. So not taking her to the park because the sun went down is not an option for her. I've also used this for walks at night or early morning. At the beginning of our walks, my dog likes to be ahead of me sniffing out all the wonderful smells along the way. My dog being a pitbull, a lot of people are naturally afraid of her even though pitbulls are one of the most sweetest dogs you will ever meet, they can easily spot my dog and not be so startled when we walk by their path.BRIGHTNESSThis is bright enough for me to spot my dog a couple hundred feet away at night.BATTERY LIFEThe battery lasted me for about a month using it for 1-1.5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Nite-Ize says it supposed to run for about 20 hours for normal operation and 25 hours for strobe. My use came very close to the company’s claim. It takes two CR2016 batteries which can be a pain to swap. One side of the light you have to pop off the cover to get access to the internal piece to replace the battery. It’s helpful if you have a key, screw driver, or coin to help remove the batteries. I tried using the replacement batteries to remove the old ones, but the edges kept sliding off each other. After that you just snap back on the cover and you are done.DURABILITYThis thing held up fairly well during the time I had it. My dog loves rough housing with other dogs, so I was very surprised that it lasted as long as it did with my dogs play. About a month after using it every day, the light would start turning itself off while my dog was playing. At first I thought it may had been from a dog biting on the light and turning it on, but late on I found out a good jostle will cause the light to turn off. For that, I reduced a star off this product. On another note, my dog would also love splashing water of a bucket that was at the park. The water resistance is really good for this light. Some days there would be a doggy pool at the park and my dog would jump in and have a blast in it for a few minutes and no water made it inside the unit.OPERATIONOperation is pretty simple and straight forward. One click will turn it on. Two consecutive clicks will turn on the red strobe. One click afterwards turns it off. Unfortunately you can’t control what color light is turned on. It naturally cycles through all the colors. It would have been nice if they allowed you to select a specific color. If there are multiple dogs with similar lights on their collars, being able to select a different color would help you spot your pet out of the crowd.FINAL THOUGHTSI had a rough time deciding to review this as a 3 star or a 4 star rating. I wanted to take another star away because of the history of the company's other products I've owned that failed after so many months of use. This light didn't completely fail on me and depending on perspective, some might say my light went through heavy use. This is one of those things I would say it wouldn't hurt to spend the money once to see what mileage you get out of it. If it breaks in a month or two, I would be cautious about buying a replacement, after that its not worth it. I'm sure if the light went through light use, it may last longer than it did for me. So right now I'll stick with a 4 and I may buy this again when fall comes again to see how long it lasts the next time around. If it fails on me again, I will edit my review and drop it down to a 3 star rating.

I got the color-changing light that can also be a red blinking light depending on if you click the light on with one click or two. We use this on our two medium sized dogs' leashes. The lights have great visibility and are good for nighttime walks. The weight of the light is a little heavy for our dogs' collars and/or leashes. We use martingale collars so there isn't really a great place to fasten the lights that doesn't cause a lot of weight and swinging ballast on the collar. We normally clip the lights to the leash instead, typically on the ring that attaches the leash webbing to the clip mechanism. Our one dog is okay with this arrangement, but the other one doesn't like it as the light occasionally touches his back and distracts him/drives him crazy. For him, we clip the light further up onto the short traffic leash bit of webbing that is attached to his leash. The higher placement keeps the light from touching him. Whether clipped on the clipping mechanism ring or on the traffic leash webbing, I like the higher placement as it seems to keep the light unobstructed; whereas when the light is clipped directly to the collar, the light can be obscured by your dog's fur and/or body.Because of the weight and the way it makes the leash/collar swing, I do not use the lights when running as I believe it would be too uncomfortable for our dogs. I have reflective safety vests that I use instead if I run at night.You do need to firmly click/press the light to get it turned on and off, but we do not find it difficult. Once you understand how to do it, it just becomes second nature. Because we do clip the light onto the webbing on one leash, I do find it a pain to clip the light on the 1" webbing. A bigger clip would be nice, but it would also add more weight and I'm sure most customers aren't using this light in the same manner as us. Not too big a deal.

As previous reviewers said, I received 1 out of 2 of these lights in perfect working order and the second one with the batteries already dead. I purchased new batteries right at Walmart though and replaced them; now it works fine. The batteries were super easy to replace without worrying about damaging the light, although it does seem wrong to have to buy your own batteries for a product that advertises that it comes with the batteries.I like to go running after work, but now that it is already dark by then, I wanted to have a light to see where I was going as well as make me more visible to passing/oncoming cars. These lights really only solve half that problem, since they aren't really bright enough to see much ahead of me, but they're definitely bright enough to make me visible to cars, so they'd probably be great for early evening/nighttime walkers. I like that they can be on at all times or blinking with an easy single-click or double-click of the button, and the metal attaching clip is really heavy duty so I don't have to worry about the light falling off my zipper or wherever I attach it, even if I'm running and the light is swinging around.I purchased these with the second purpose of using them on my dog's collar, and I think these would be really perfect for that, although she's too small at the moment to try it out! They seem like they can be seen from a good distance and would probably help a dog to see a little bit in front of them, since the light would be so much closer to the ground. There's almost no chance that this light would come off the collar, since the clip is so strong. The click on/off is quite easy for a person to use, but wouldn't be able to be accidentally turned off by the dog.All in all a great light, as long as you don't want to use it to see where you're going in the pitch dark!

You need to make a slight modification to this item for it give many years of use - I know, I've had about four of these now! There's a metal prong in the battery compartment which keeps the batteries under tension and holds them in place. It's not spring loaded and with repeated insertions of batteries and pressing the light to operate it, the prong loses tension. You need to cut a strip of card or foil about 1cm by 4mm and insert the card underneath the prong so the prong can't be 'flattened' by the batteries. This maintains a nice tight fit and works perfectly (not too tight or the light won't work). I've also found putting a very thin sliver of tape or card around the circumference of the battery compartment keeps it snug in the housing. These 'mods' are easy to do and the light will last for years - it is easily the best light of it's kind on the market and the integrated clip is a great idea. My dog crashes through hedges and is always writhing around and it has stood up this and more! Only four stars as I think the manufacturers should include some kind of 'kit' to save making your own.One last thing: please don't use it on flashing mode whilst attached to your dog's collar. I can't think of anything more irritating as they are really bright. They work better - and are much more visible - attached to a harness and enable you to track your dogs whereabouts. During darkness they appear to be ghostly globes which float around the night air of their own volition. This is very amusing when passers by don't realise they're attached to my dog!!!

Great light thing to spot Dogue on his walk when it gets darker in the winter months but once the battery ran out it being a sealed unit, could not replace it. Shame, as it went through water and took some abuse. I would recommend yes.
