Watercolor painting is difficult enough. I paint plein air as often as possible but until I retire I will have to paint from photos - like most artists do - but hesitate to admit. I like to draw everything freehand but I have to lightly sketch everything to make sure it 'fits' before I start painting-and that takes time. This tool allows me to make sure that I have some of the important aspects of the sizes and positioning of the things in the photo correct - right away - which saves so much time. No erasing! You can adjust the tool to different proportions like 1:1.25, 1:1.5, 1:1.75, 1:2, 1:3, etc. (I'm guessing these but you get the picture). This way, depending on the size of the photo, it's accurate with the size of paper you are painting on. My initial paintings with it worked out very well. The price is very reasonabe for the end result. This is a must have for artists - get one!

This is the first time I am using a proportional divider. Every comment on YouTube said that it would really improve the quality of the work - and so far - I am quite happy. This proportional divider is made of plastic and is not quite 10". I think this is one reason why the scaling is not quite accurate. If you are an artist - it may not make that much of a difference. I wouldn't recommend this project for an architect.Bottom line - If you are interested in seeing if proportional dividers are worth it - get this product and see for yourself. I know I will be investing in a metal one in the future.

it has two extra center - bolt pieces, in case you lose one? DOES THE JOB.

I bought this for measuring the proportions and transfer the scale from a photo to enlarge the object onto my painting. Very light weight to carry to plein air painting events. It fits easily into my brush holder.

It is easy to use. However, it took three seconds to realize that it needs improvement. First and most obvious, the ratios are not marked. Second, it needs a lock. The pivot is so loose that just moving from the initial measurement can make the device change. That makes it almost useless. But, if you are careful then it is roughly ok. Maybe a jury rigged nut and bolt would work. Third, the hole placement seem odd. Comparing the ratios with a ruler seems like they are not integer ratios such as 2:1, 3:1, 3:2, etc. That may be due to note 2 above. Fourth, no instructions included. Even a few sentences could help address these issues.

It's plastic, which I knew that before buying it and though I'd like to have had a nicer one, I'm happy with what I got for this price range. Also, didn't have to wait forever to receive it, so that's a real plus too.

The divider does the job to a fair accuracy , But it is weak in strength so the accuracy is lost in measurement, also it is very expensive when one looks at the instrument

And you can't stab your foot with it like with a metal one or it wont make holes in your bag or carry case. That said it might be easy to bend if not stored straight. Needs a light hand. I"m happy with it

Was way bigger than I thought it would be. Works well though.
