The Perfect Coonhounds guide by Mark Manfield is a great place to start if you want to consider becoming a Coonhounds owner. I enjoyed the book and learned a great deal about the dog. The book has just the right amount of detail, from the history of the breed, it's temperament, feeding, grooming, how to purchase one, to some basic training techniques. I have a Rottweiler/Siberian Husky mix and wanted to know more about the Coonhounds breed. I have a much better understanding of this breed after reading this book.

This is an absolutely excellent book to read. I had a wonderful time reading through the pages. The content is straightforward and comprehensive. I love the fact that the author included photos of a Coonhounds which makes this book even more interesting and fun to read. I highly recommend it!

The author is very knowledgeable and I learned so much about my Redbone Coonhound pup which has helped me understand him and the best way to train and deal with him daily. I knew some about the Blue Tick having grown up around them but they were outside dogs and mine is inside and has been more of a pet. Great pals! Loving and right by your side. I enjoyed the book thoroughly learning about the different hounds. Easy read.

This book is very basic and general. It would be good for a child/teen or first time dog owner. But would need to be supplemented with a more detailed resource.

I honestly never write reviews but I was very disappointed. This was not at all what I expected. It is basically the equivalent of an “all about dog breed x” book in an elementary school library. There was no insight. I read the whole thing in 15 minutes and kept wondering when it would actually give coonhound specific advice. I guess maybe if you’ve never seen an actual dog in person this could be valuable, but other than explaining where some hound breeds got their name (i.e. they are red so they are named something with red in it), this is a waste of time.

I’ve always wanted to have a dog. Among the breeds that I like most is the Coonhounds. This book helped me have an in-depth understanding as to the characteristics and personality of this unique breed. Loved how specific and well detailed this book is. It’s definitely the best book guide about Coonhounds I’ve ever read so far. I would highly recommend this book!

A great informative book specifically about Coonhounds. There's a lot of fresh information found here on this book by Mark Manfield. This manual is indeed, well written, practical and updated. Most of the advice here is also the best suggestion of a professional breeder that I've known for years. I could rely on this guide whenever I need some help with my Coonhounds. Highly commendable.

This is an excellent resource for Coonhounds owners out there, covering pretty much everything from an overview, history, variations in the breed, temperament, basic training, needs, pros/cons, how to get started, as well as beautiful photographs. I love the striking, unique beauty of this breed and how well it gets along with everyone, even cats.They just aren't like other dogs, which this book makes obvious. It is nice to be able to refer back to the book for information I glossed over when looking for a specific section. The nice layout makes it easy to find what you want.

This is a good basic book for new coon hound owners

As other reviewers have pointed out, it's a wikipedia article with some fluff added for padding. Waste of money.
