How To Start Learning Chinese
I just started learning the Chinese language and I try to understand as much as I can of its history and culture before I start learning the "real" conversation and grammar. Having that in mind, the first part of this book thought me a lot of things I didn't know about the Chinese language and also gave me "dictionary basics" - a list of the words I will need for everyday use, which is great. Also, there is a chapter of the book with common mistakes while learning Chinese and I already corrected some of them I was making and wasn't aware of it before reading this book. The second part of the book is focused on short dialogues and Chinese phrases that is good to know because they are part of the language and you can't go further in your study without them.

Perfect product
This is a very good book for beginners. Lots of good info on the history of Mandarin. I also do online courses and use this book as a quick reference guide.

A great way to start
I bought this thinking that learning Chinese would be something casual but this book made it easy for me to learn and understand. There are some strange printing issues with the text but I’m terms of the content itself it’s very understandable

Okay Introductory Book
This book is essentially broken into 2 sections. The first half contains some interesting information on the history of Mandarin, character strokes, pronunciation of pinyin, and some tips for actually learning the language. I appreciated reading through these and understanding the background information on Mandarin in addition to learning pronunciation, but I was a bit disappointed to discover that there wasn’t much more than that. I was looking for more in-depth information on topics like grammar and sentence structure and these were lacking from the book. Most of the actual Mandarin came from lists of vocabulary words and a handful of beginner phrases. The second half of the book is considered the workbook, but I wouldn’t really describe it as such. It was once again just lists of vocabulary and phrases for you to just copy writing. There are a few short sample dialogues, where you can provide an answer, but everything seemed to mostly be based on memorization rather than learning how to formulate sentences yourself.I gave it 3 stars because I did enjoy reading the first part of the book despite it not being what I expected and learning pinyin pronunciation was helpful as well. If you’re looking for a school textbook quality book this isn’t going to be it, but it will give you some decent background information to start with.

Good Book
Impressive for the amount of content they are able to pack into these books! Fun stories that really help contextualize what you're trying to learn in a non intimidating way. Read with ease and learn some new things along the way!

Learn Mandarin Chinese for Beginners
I like the contents but the font size is so small it is hard to see the strokes. This is definitely going to get in the way of what I actually purchased the book for...learning to write what I know how to say...

Okay, but
First part of "book" is just a prep talk and some history with common words and translations.Second part is phrase book with a little room to write in, it doesn't seem to be in a logical order. It would be difficult to learn much from the book, but it's okay to have as a reference.
