The paper is soft to the touch and holds ink well. The cover is thick enough to feel substantial but it's still flexible and doesn't get in the way. I absolutely love the look and feel of this book. I bought it to use for my notes and journal for a d&d character as it fits her theme, but I may need to have another for more general use.

This is a man’s outdoor journal, old style. I’ve had several and this is the best. I use a fountain pen for writing and sketching and the paper takes ink well, with the occasional blot… but that gives it character. I was trying it myself before buying for my two Sons in Law. I recommend it as an outdoor journal and sketch book. Lewis and Clark would like it.

This journal is absolutely amazing. Enough space to write, draw, sketch, or even attach smaller photographs into. The pages are beautiful with the deckle edge that adds character and gravity to the tome. I have been buying at least a couple of them every time I place an order on Amazon because I don’t want to come back one day and find that they are no longer available. To keep the paper soft for writing but crisp so they don’t become brittle, I’ve been keeping them in a humidity controlled safe because of how many I purchase and living in a dry state. I don’t want to buy all of them and have them turn to dust! These pages stand up to watercolor really well and I only use a medium bent nib fountain pen to write in them (my preference) and the horizontal bleed is minimal to nonexistent, based on how I write. The bleed-through is literally nonexistent. Doesn’t matter how much pressure I use or how much paint I use, nothing goes through these pages. And, the way it looks after you’ve been handling it is amazing. Write in it for a while and the oils from your hands will condition the leather covers and lend an air of age and gravitas to it that would make you think that it came directly from years (if not centuries) ago. I’m absolutely hooked on mine and I hope to be able to get them for some time to come.

Five stars for the Beauty and Quality, of the leather cover. I appreciated that the book could expand and be closed with a creative leather wrap-tie. The pages made one feel they were living in ancient times and were stunning. I'd planned to paste my 8 1/2 x 11 pages of my autobiography by narrowing them 1/2" on each side and gluing them in. Unfortunately, arthritic pain in my hands caused the thickness of this generous book...too much to hold. I had to return it.

This review is for the black leather and brown paper journal. I cannot say enough good things about the journal itself and the talented people who make them! The leather is soft and the black is 'real' black, very saturated and even. The pages are all hand painted which is evident in the uniqueness of each page.They also come wrapped in a lovely soft, cloth bag with a page protector along the exposed edge of the journal pages.All in all I LOVE this journal and this company, I am a fan for life!

I have this in my safe as my emergency fallback. Has all my accounts, contacts, u names, passwords, pinkslips, special instructions, insurance policies and PINs in case something happens to me. My sons have the combo to safe so I am good. I love the looks of it, very distinctive and classic. Can't miss it when you open the safe door.
