Hello, I am a musician and poet college student who used to be a piano tuner-technician. I hope to be a luthier/tech someday.This items works. I've used it, and yes it does work for viola, not only violin. Most handy for adjusting the bridge when doing string height I imagine.The reason for 4 stars is simply because the more expensive ones from a real supplier would look and feel higher quality.

It really aided the installation of a new bridge and strings.

Product used to remove violin bridge, provides top pressure to avoid soundpost falling (which is an absolute headache to reinstall and adjust), if replacing bridge or making adjustments to it. Does the job, but the adjusting screw that raises and lowers the tool is very stiff. I tried to coat the threads with WD40, which helped slightly. Added some surgical tape on the grip to widen it, which worked. The tool has rubber feet to protect the violin top. Worth the cost, since it is less than half the cost of the standard luthier grade tool. Helpful to have if you tinker with your own instruments. If you buy violin bridge blanks and do the fitting work yourself, you save at least $50 (or more) compared to the standard violin shop would charge.
