A Crochet World of Creepy Creatures and Cryptids: 40 Amigurumi Patterns for Adorable Monsters, Mythical Beings and More

A great book for venturing into amigurumi
I’ve been crocheting off and on for the last 20ish years, and have been more active in the last 7 years. I was gifted a wooble as my first amigurumi and couldn’t get enough and was looking for more. This was right up my alley and I love all of the little creepy critters.Pros: the patterns are straight forward, and figures are true to the images (of the ones I’ve made at least). All of the critters are cute. Yarn amounts and colors used in the book are listed, though that can be up to your imagination. Pattern most likely can be scaled depending on yarn size.Cons: This is not a book for beginners (fine for me but not necessarily clear at first). Basic stitches and knowledge of terminology need to be known (sc, inc, dec, HDC, FO etc). While all critters have images, wish there were more from other angles. As an example, working on the Cthulhu, I wish there was an image from the back to see how wings were attached. Instead, I had to wing it. 😎Overall, if you have some basic skills in crocheting, have an interest in weird and cute cryptids, and like cute stuffed figures, u highly recommend this book. Even if you don’t know all the terminology, there’s vids out there to show how to do those skills as well.

A must have for crocheters who love folklore
This book as been in my view for a long while and I finally decided to buy it after taking a flip through a physical copy (I ordered mine on Amazon since they had a spiral bound version available) because I'm a lover of folklore and all the patterns look so cute. Looking over the patterns they're easy to follow and use US crocheting terminology. It's also nice that the author adds a paragraph explaining the lore behind the creature and explaining a little bit of their design process. What sealed the deal for me was the cute griffin and centaur pattern. For Christmas I wanted to crochet my DnD group griffins since it was something significant to the party and I find the teddy bear style of the griffin PERFECT and something I could quickly make since I need to crochet 5 of these. The centaur was an added bonus since I play one in our campaign and I'd love to have a ragdoll of the character to commemorate the campaign. My only small complaint and I'm not going to deduct a star from the product since this is a personal preference is some of the patterns do use felt for pieces and I don't like doing that. I'd probably find a way to crochet those pieces instead whenever I crochet those patterns

First pattern book and I am inlove!
This book is amazing, I love the little creatures. It’s well written, however I wouldn’t reccomend this for beginners. It was pretty easy to understand as someone who is more advanced in crochet, however a beginner or even a newer intermediate level crocheter may find it hard to sew the limbs on because there is very little instructions on how / where to sew them on. Still love the book, just don’t jump the gun if you’re newer to crochet, practice basic doll designs on YouTube before getting a book. It wouldn’t be fair to rate it poorly due to jumping the gun & rushing into practicing skills that you weren’t previously versed in. Once you’re comfortable with amigurimi, run and buy this book! It’s so much fun. There is 40 patterns which I think is amazing! I’m excited to test and see if any of the designs will work up well with #6 weight yarn! The only thing that I don’t particularly like is that some patterns require felt, however the felt usage is minimal and could be worked around.

Easy enough for a beginner.
My wife has made several creatures from this, and she just started with crochet a few weeks ago. The Nosferatu is fantastic. My son likes his Cthulhu. She also made another one, but I can’t remember what it was and it’s already on her desk at work. Highly recommended.

Beautiful book
Fabulous book but the patterns are a little vague in some steps which is why the 4 stars. It really has some adorable elements and details and I love it. Just wish some of the steps were clearer. My opinion is it wouldn’t be great for beginners but it works well for higher intermediate to high level makers.

Gorgeous!
I love this little book! My 7 year old son and I sat for over an hour looking and reading about all the creatures in this book and googling their "real life" resemblances. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I can't wait to finish my current WIP so I can start a Medusa!
