I can get a little winded in my reviews, but if you can bear with me, you might read a useful thing or two. To start with, I've been using this filter pump about 6 weeks. I'm using it on a 15'x42" above ground pool from the time both were removed from the box. Assembly was...mostly...straightforward. The instructions aren't exactly bad, but I really didn't find them sufficient for my own needs. I ended up going to YouTube and found a guy who walked through this exact same model's setup and I found that immensely more helpful. Most things needed are included in the boxes except a few tools and some o ring lubricant. Why wasn't a small bit of the lubricant included with everything else? You got me. But I did need to buy some and had read on Google that it's not a great idea to use alternatives (Vaseline or coconut oil or whatever else). The screws mounting the motor to the base were an unbelievable pain, but I ended up managing. Sand for this product is also not included, but it can be purchased from a pool supply, hardware store, or even here on Amazon (where I obtained mine). Adding the sand and getting the lid part of the unit nice and flush isn't quite the one and done process the instructions suggested. I got the tube nice and centered and still couldn't get the lid level after filling it with sand, thus requiring me to hand empty the entire thing and start over multiple times. I finally found that adding a bit of sand, trying the lid carefully, adding some more, trying again, etc was the only way I was finally able to have the lid sit flush at the right angle enough to get the ring clamped on. Another issue I ran into was that even though the pool hoses I had were the same size as the pump's, the pool hoses were a baby bit not as snug as the ones included with the pump. So no amount of tightening on the clamp rings stopped leaking and I had to stop, replace all the hoses, and reattach. I still have a tiny bit of dribble no matter what was done trying to fix it, but it's not enough to stress over with regular water loss. I do feel it's worth mentioning that I live in Texas and this unit is in non stop sun most every day. It's run like a champ anyway. The operation of the unit had seemed a little daunting, but as long as you remember to unplug everything before switching functions, it's super simple. I would suggest buying one of these on a damaged box type of deal if you're able. I was able to save a decent bit this way and everything I received was in brand new, not damaged condition when it got to me. As far as function, I can tell a night and day difference when I'm using the filter enough and when I'm not. I use no cover at all on my pool (including during Hurricane Beryl that I was in some of the worst wind of) and other than vacuuming the big stuff off the bottom every couple of days, the pump does all the rest. It's much stronger than the included pump that comes with the pool, and a lot less to worry about since it doesn't use those paper filters. (I used this type in the past and it's a lot more maintenance.) I think I've covered everything of note except to say that....Yes, I'm happy with this purchaseYes, I would purchase this product againYes, I absolutely would recommend this product

The media could not be loaded.  I've never had a sand pump for my pool before, but decided to order this one to replace the stock cartridge filter. All I can say is that this pump works so much better. It can actually handle having two intakes on the pool one for the skimmer and one for a lower level set intake to pull out the junk in the pool. It was super easy to set up and keep my water crystal clear. My chemicals are also easier to balance. The pump and motor are also super quiet. It comes with both one and a quarter and one and a half inch attachments for the inlet and outlet of the pump and valve. The only thing that caught me off guard was that the pump comes with 1-1/4 inch hoses And Amazon told me it came with 1-1/2 inch hoses. The hoses are cheaper plastic and do not seal super well with the plastic hose clamps that are provided with most pools however higher quality hose clamps fixed the issue. I filled it with a 50 pound bag of sand from my local pool store and follow the directions for set up and had no issues with sand pumping into my pool or anything like that.

If you buy this pump and after a few days/weeks have issues with pressure gauge not registering and week suction, take apart the first connection into the motor. It gets a ton of junk (hair, leaves, etc.) stuck in the rotor that needs pulled out. After doing so, works like a champ again. Thought I bought a junker at first but just had too much hair and debris stuck in it.Would figure it’d come from the pool and go to the filter first but instead it goes through the pump, then the filter, then returned to pool.Does leak a bit but if you use duct tape at the connections and tighten down the clamps, it’s very minimal.Overall. Good little pump and filter.

I bought this sand filter and pump combo a couple of years ago for my little 1100 gal pool. It did a FANTASTIC job keeping the pool clean compared with the glorified fish tank pump that came with the pool. In my case, I was not able to remove the old pump from the bottom of the skimmer, so I instead pulled the impeller out of the pump and installed this between the old pump and the pool return. It works perfectly for my purpose but it would probably move even more water without the old pump in between. Anyway, this set up is great.Note to anyone that needs it: I did not bring it in for the winter and that was a mistake. The pump didn’t work when I tried it again early this summer. But with the help of some YouTube videos, I learned that if you pop the back cover off the pump, you can turn the impeller, breaking it free to spin again. It worked for me and it has been going all summer once again (knock on wood).

This pump is a great replacement to my paper filter that came included with the pool. I have a Coleman 18 x 9 swimming pool purchased from Canadian tire. Last year the water was cloudy for almost the entire season because I did not change the paper filter soon enough. As a new pool owner, there is quite a steep learning curve to water clarity and balance. This filter and pump have been an excellent upgrade and the water has been crystal clear all season so far. My only criticisms are that the filter does not have a site glass for backwashing, and the pressure gauge does not seem to work . Otherwise, I backwash about once a week, rinse and then turn back to filtration. Have needed very few chemicals to maintain clear, balanced water.

We didn't realize how cloudy our water truly was until we got this. Within 12 hours the pool was looking amazing, after 24 it was the clearest it's ever been.The instructions are horrible for set up and we watched installation videos of the internet and followed other reviews for better set up instructions. We had to order adapters for our coleman pool as the parts it came with didn't work. There are white adapters shown in the picture but we didn't get those with the order, so had to order separate. If you have a coleman make sure you order the adapters too!
