Garmin fish locater
Very good product. I offered two different mounting methods and assembled very well in the dash of my pontoon. The display is in adjustable color modes and very viewable. It also indicates location of fish in a orange color that looks like a fish. Good product

Great Garmin Base model - No Complaints
Some people don't read the product description or do a youtube search for an independent review and that shows by what's written on the amazon reviews for the Garmin Striker 5. This is Garmin's base model, it has their great traditional and clear view technology that seems to be on par with the Garmin GPSMAP units that cost three times the cost of the base unit, the screen display is adequate for the price point. Having spilt screen and dual-frequency display of the traditional sonar seems overkill for the price point but is an added luxury many will never use. Being able to run traditional and clear view is a great feature. For less than $300 you're getting a lot of technology and simple to use menu, with a transducer included. To address all the complaints about not having preloaded maps; there are approximately 58,700 natural and 53,119 manmade lakes, even the higher end Garmins only come loaded with about 17,000 lake maps. The Quick Draw feature is there and is a simple function to use on lakes you frequent, a quick youtube search will teach you.If you are looking for the fancy box you saw on your favorite fishing TV show or at the local marina hosting offshore fishing boats, this isn't it. This is a budget sonar with basic capabilities, no wifi, no active captain, no sd slot or autopilot, that's why it's less than $300, beat the dead horse it's, "the base model".I have the Striker 5cv installed on a 16' aluminum boat and I have dual Garmin 76xx on a Grady White, so I'm familiar with the base and the best Garmins. If you're looking for the capabilities of the higher end sonar/gps, open your wallet farther, much further and move on from the Striker. Otherwise, this is a good little box for smaller boats and kayaks.

Garmin for the win
Fits perfectly on my small console and the graphics are crystal clear! I can't say enough nice things about this unit.Update 8/10/2024: Still totally happy with this unit. Hasn't failed at all and the view of the bottom is really clear. Even in the bright sun it won't wash out. If you're looking for a unit that will show you the bottom of the lake or river, and you're not into charting, maps, or cameras, this will fit the bill. I'm an old skool fisherman and don't need all the high-tech crap. Just a warm day, a stocked tacklebox, and my Garmin to show me where the drop offs are.

Mapping
Great unit, easy set up very clear definition of structure ESPECIALLY if you buy an upgraded transducer. Poor mapping, I didn't expect pre-loaded maps, but my unit allowed me to make maps and routes for the first season. But after not using it for the winter my mapping didn't work in the spring. Still a solid unit and would buy again.

Exact Item as Pictured
Easy to install, should include a manual, which you have to download from the internet. For such an expensive item Garmin, should stop cutting corners and provide a decent manual. Works as described, easy to assimilate the menus and responses. Was able to install it in the previous Garmin swivel mount, so did not have to predrill and did not need the flush mount kit. Well packaged. The plastic mount at the transom, seems weak, so I bought the aftermarket metal one. Mounts sturdier and its stronger, no chance of it breaking off which is the impression I got from the original mount made by Garmin. Beautiful screen cover with the GARMIN logo. Connection wire after fuse should be longer.

Excellent
I watched vids online, and liked the reviews. Some said it was hard to learn, but I found it to be quite simple. I'm NOT technologically inclined! I've already used the mapping feature, and plotted gps points. Depth finder, and speed are also pretty accurate. I'm very very happy with it. If you plan on a lot of ocean, or big bay, or numerous lakes, just know, there are no maps on this unit, and it doesnt have the capability. But you can map the courses that you take, and it will save it.

DO NOT BUY NO MAPS cheap JUNK! Garmin should be ashamed of this
This thing is a piece of trash! Garmin should ashamed of themselves. I’ve had garmin on many of my boats and my motoryacht. I purchased this for a 21ft tender I purchased for my yacht to have a small combo unit. The thing has NO CHARTS! This is BS! I have an old garmin 76 from like 2005 that had charts in it so don’t tell me it’s a memory thing as memory has only gone down in cost. Now I have a transducer mounted to my boat which is in the water and now what do I do? This thing is pathetic junk and now I will NEVER buy garmin again. That’s it you just ruined your brand for me. Telling me it has GPS is like selling me a car radio with GPS that shows you your coordinates but without a single street. Last $300 garmin will EVER see of mine! Back to Raymarine. I would have spent more, money isn’t the issue, deceit is the issue here. I want a small combo unit for a tender and I got a fish finder with a completely useless and completely unupgradabke GPS receiver that does NOTHING!
