I had a Big Blue filter installed on my home well water system about 10-years ago, and have used these filter elements ever since then. I change them every six months. They're easy to replace, but always a good plan to have a spare O-ring gasket and a little silicone grease on hand. No sediment in the toilet tanks and flush valves since I started using them.

Thia filter is fantastic. It starts at 50 micron and closer to the center narrows to 5 or 1 micron depending on the version. It has to be flushed for 10 minutes post installation. But you can actually see the particulate size in your water depending on where the dark rings are when looking at the filter on its access. This cannot be cleaned since it's catching different particulates within the matrix bases in their sizes. If you need to clean the outside, you need a larger filter (100 or 75 micron) before this one. It's all about a series of filters stepping down micron filtration and keeping the more expensive carbon /other media downstream so you can prolong their lives. When people ask how long they last, that depends on how much water you are filtering and how much crap is in your water. This is the best particulate filter type. Pleated filters only do one size.the beauty of this one is that you get 50 down to 5 in one unit. I replace these every few months in my home filter system. I use the 50 down to 5 since the 1 micron becomes too restricted too fast.
