I love these dishes, I just wish I could order them individually because I have waaaay too many coffee mugs now.The white version has a nice matte finish on the outside and a gloss finish on the eating surface. Other praise:- super easy to clean- they seem very durable...I'm rough with dishes and several times I was sure I'd chipped one dropping it or bumping it against something and they look like new after a year- they have a good weight. Not too heavy, but not flimsy feeling like CorelleMy biggest gripe other than an individual purchasing option (which may be an Amazon thing), is that the coffee mugs don't really match the style of the dishes. They look kind of old fashioned and the handle is very small so I don't really enjoy drinking out of them, but really they're just backup since I use a thermos most of the time.

Good replacement.

Decades ago, I bought Noritake stoneware and kept it all this time. Then, I decided to upgrade to the newer, less chunky, elegant designs. After looking at many products and many stoneware makers, I chose Noritake again. Why? In addition to my previous excellent experience with Noritake, I chose this pattern because I badly wanted an off-white or cream color. Although I admire the modern, fluid style so popular in stoneware today, I did not want plain, stark white---and that's all you can get from most manufacturers.The light cream color of this china is so soft and restful--no institutional look to it at all. Contrast is provided by the fact that the exterior side of each piece has a matte finish, while the interior side (where food or drink touches) is shiny, silky smooth. And, the silky side washes like a dream. I do not miss having a decorative band at all. After all, the food can and should provide all the decoration needed.One caution: because this stoneware is designed less bulkily than the older kind, be careful picking up a mug of hot coffee or tea. If your knuckles come into contact with the outside edge of the mug, they are likely to get burned. I do not see this as a con--just something that is a natural outcome of the slimmer, more elegant design. "You pays your money and you takes your choice."

I have a set of these and they are beautiful, beautiful pieces, but I just ordered another set and they arrived in the wrong color - it's completely different from the ones I've had for years. Very disappointed I now have 4 mismatching pieces... ); Still wonderful sets but really was hoping for the same color..

4 Piece and not 4 Place settings. My son bought what he thought was 2 sets (4 pieces each, so 8 plates etc) and was disappointed when he got TWO plates, TWO bowls. So for Christmas I thought to surprise him with actually 8 place settings. So I thought I read very carefully and got 2 boxes. Thinking I got 4 place settings of 4 pieces each. I had priced other dinnerware, and the $35 was about right for 4 plates, 4 cups, 4 salad plates, 4 bowls. WRONG. I too got two boxes, each contained one plate, one cup, one salad plate and one bowl. He is now the proud owner of 3 place settings, each with 4 pieces. I consider myself quite bright and cannot believe I made the same mistake he did. Read the other reviews and find out we are not alone in assuming for the price you get a place settings for 4 people. You get what is in the picture.

I registered for these place settings in Chocolate for our wedding. I was looking for durable, classic place settings that weren't too bulky to fit neatly in a dishwasher. We use these dishes daily, and in the 2 years that we've been using them we have not had a single plate, bowl, or mug chip on us! I also have the gravy boat, salt & pepper shakers, the 3 nesting bowls, a serving platter and serving bowl. I absolutely love these dishes and the Chocolate color is very neutral and goes well with out bright green kitchen. I plan to use these dishes forever!

Very pretty dishes I feel they are really delicate for every day use but I've invested in 10 place settings so I'm gonna stick it out. Some plates are broken when they arrived but the return and exchange are to time consuming for me. I'm gonna order replacements from Bed Bath and Beyond. Same price easier to replace and return if there's a problem.I wanted to update on these dishes. It's been a year and a half and I've used these dishes every day and put in the dishwasher. They are still going strong and beautiful. I haven't broke any. Definitely recommend. They are also available at Bed Bath and Beyond if you want to look at them in person.

I had registered for this set for my wedding and I came to Amazon to add additional place settings. This stoneware is very durable and beautiful. I really like the chocolate because it lends it self to the earthy-ness of the stone. The pieces I have hold up really well in the dishwasher, but do have a few scratches on the surface from knives. I have not noticed any chips or cracks. This set is very weighty and the pieces are quite large. I usually use the smaller size plate for meals because the larger feels unnecessary. The bowl is rather large as well, especially for cereal. I will be looking to purchase the mini bowls of this pattern for that purpose.
