Amazing - A Pry Bar Object of Desire
Like many blokes I have a deep and unrequited love for tools especially shiny ones... I guess that's how Snap-On stay in business. Selling overpriced tools to those of us unable to refuse a beautiful new spanner.I digress. I got this simply because it was available and having spent many years doing up houses and the latest full renovation still ongoing I figured I could always use a new pry bar. Then it turned up and honestly, I almost decided to mount it on a bit of hardwood in my workshop and put it on my wall. It's truly a work of metal art.Given that it's basically just something to rip open boxes and pull pallets apart I'd have to say it's beyond over engineered. And finished. Really. It's fantastic. The finish is as good as it's possible to get on a tool. The design is almost art and the manufacturing level is Rolls-Royce standard. I figured before I got it that the fact that it was joined it would be weak and a bit useless.Nope. Properly robust bit of kit, this. Weighty too at over 2kg. You are not going to break this without some serious mechanical advantage. In use it really does the job. You can angle this to get the perfect leverage and the front claws can be used together or apart for wider force depending upon what you want to destroy.Frankly, I didn't think that any tool that claims to be a pry bar could elicit such a sense of desire. If you buy one, don't leave it lying around because it will vanish fast.

Expensive but super quality
This pry bar is supplied in a branded box and is the smallest model in the range. This one measures 17 inches while there is also a 38 inch version and a 45 inch 2 in 1 option where the handle is fixed and does not pivot. Nevertheless I struck, (along with the courier!) by the weight of it as well as the solid build quality. It is made of hardened steel with an attractive blue anodised finish on the handle. I was initially sceptical about the concept, especially at the projected price of nearly £130 but looking at you can see it is a quality piece of kit. The jaws are sharp and finely tips for getting under the wood for the first time and each position locks in place firmly so that you can put some real effort into it without worrying about it breaking. This model means that you have to get a bit more personal with the wood you are breaking up than the longer versions but provides enough leverage for all but the heaviest pallets and the ability the adjust the angle of the handle is useful in tight spaces or if you are after a particular plank of wood. To adjust this you have to press both buttons in and it was initially very stiff, but loosened up with use and familiarity. With the jaws wide you can separate pallet wood without breaking it up while when they are together it is good for end bits and also removing nails which is very effective pulling them out cleanly without too much effort. The multipurpose jaws work better than I expected due them locking securely but if this starts to wear I will update this review. There is also a flattened area at the back you can hammer to get under the wood initially. If you regularly break up pallets or need to separate wood this is worth considering, especially if you want to reuse the wood after. A lot of the time a simple crow bar will work as well but the precision of this mean it will get between tight fitting pallets and separate them cleanly rather than destroy them in the process. For heavy duty pallets you may be better off with the longer handled versions but these are harder to store. Overall this is expensive but justifies this with it's quality and clever design.

Serious piece of kit... But... Ooohhh, the price!!
Really impressive & reassuringly heavy, it even looks slick with the three quarters anodised handle. It's a pry bar with a twist, OK a hinge or two, it'll switch from pulling nails to a splayed double pry lever at the press of a button, the angle is also adjustable with a locking hinge where the handle meets the head. This let's you apply force even in a tight space where it could be difficult with a regular type of pry bar.For breaking pallets etc, there's a striking point to the back & it seems it'll take a whack, when needed. The gear/hinges do feel strong, which is what I felt could be a real weakness, they seem good, but time will tell.Strangely, the larger version is cheaper, by quite a bit... Neither are cheap, but this one is a very good tool. Personally, I really couldn't justify the purchase price, so that's the only reason it's not getting all 5 stars from me, but otherwise, an excellent tool.
