It is a very simple explanation for the language with examples. But it is just too sime and short. Hope the second one e will have some concrete stuff.

I received this book and was able to read it cover to cover within an hour. They have one piece of code that they use throughout the book which is good, thats why it gets its 2nd star, but really the 106 pages or whatever it is is really 54 pages because you see the same code over and over. Eight pages of this book is just listing release notes between the different Java versions. As a beginner, who cares ? Chapters 7 and 8 (Data Types and Variables) are actually almost identical, just written from a slightly different point of view. An example of the poor writing for a beginner - the definition of a 'double' data type is 'a double precision 64-bit IEEE floating point' - which is the exact Google result you get. But a beginner needs to know that it is used to storing fractional numbers, sufficient for storing 15 decimal digits. Just poorly done, throughout...
