Great reference to refresh pre-existing knowledge
I am a designer that used to do a lot of web-dev many moons ago, but haven't touched any of it in a long timeRecently I've made the decision to get re-acquainted with it and bought this to fill in any gaps in my knowledgeIn this day and age it is really hard finding actual BOOKS on these topics rather than online learning, books suit my a lot better as I can't easily do online courses on my commute to work... so I'm glad Ben took the time to write thisQuite a bit has changed in the years where I've not been coding, like flexbox and grids... this book was the perfect reference to let me know what I've missed, aswell as reminding me of things that I'd forgotten about!

Simply the best
Maybe the only technical book I read from cover to cover and highlighted at least a hundred paragraphs. If you want to become a CSS expert, don't leave home without it. However, it is not for absolute beginners. Understanding the essential CSS and HTML concepts is necessary to hit the ground running with this book.

Great book, takes you through all the topics is a clear concise way with lots of examples to work through to improve and reinforce understanding. The book is supported by the authors own web site where all the code from the book can be downloaded.

Good Depth But Not A Tutorial
I have mixed feelings about this book. First it is important to say that this is undeniably a very thorough treatment of the subject with a lot of advice and links to the latest standards for html and css. It is not a tutorial and it is definitely not a book for a beginner. I cross-referenced a 2022 book, "Modern CSS", and still found that up-to-date and probably easier to follow. Of course, there are a lot of videos on YouTube dealing with Responsive CSS (and I recommend Kevin Powell's ) but often it's nicer to be able to look up details from a good old paper edition.I think I will use the book as an authoritative source to check whether I am writing correct and efficient css, and perhaps solving problems, so I am not unhappy about buying the book. If you don't yet know anything about html and css this is not the book for you.

Easy to understand for people of all levels
Bens work doesn’t miss, his experience reflected in his teachings right here in this book! Whether you are starting your journey, or a fully fledged genius, this book does what it says on the tin and is the go to for helping build “future proof responsive websites”.Having used this book for a couple of months now it’s safe to say that Ben has spent his time perfecting the formula, and high means I don’t have to!Personally I’m at a point where i use this book as a reference, combining this with teachings such as ecss (another fine piece of work from Ben), to work on projects of all sizes.Whether I’m looking which element I should be choosing (semantically), brushing up on my knowledge of css grid, or cutting down the size of my sass sheets by using the relevant selectors, I can quickly find what i need in here.Another fine piece of work and another huge thank you to Ben, this works saves me and I’m sure many other developers a lot of time and effort, both in attaining the knowledge and passing it on to others!

Not suits to beginner
Often without explanation for some usage of css.e.g -webkit-filter , you even can't find an answer online. You have to search online to understand it.For the HTML5, only a very small portion in the book.

A book printed in color!
Fantastic book that is a real pleasure to work through. I really appreciate the color printing which makes most images much more interesting and concise. I wished that more publishers would chose printing in color, even with a slight raise in cost.

Go from zero HTML experience, to controlling layouts within pixels with HTML5 and CSS
Ask any graphic designer what they want most from digital projects and they will probably tell you: 'I want control over layouts, fonts and images to look exactly like my layouts'. This book delivers a great amount of information to help get you there. This delivers a solid foundation in HTML5 and CSS, for prospective front end web designers/developers, and should be used as a reference manual - not a step by step how-to-guide.All I need now is a reference book on javascript and I'm good to go!
