Superior replacement for our old robot vacuum cleaner
I’ve waited a couple of months to give this Shark AI robot vacuum cleaner a thorough review so that I would have the opportunity to fully discover its pros and cons. We recently moved to a new home, so when we first set up the robot vacuum cleaner, the house was in disarray and I was worried about the mapping function - given that we had not arranged our furniture the way we wanted it, or even purchased all our new furnishings. So I figured it would take some time to truly assess how the robot vacuum performed and adjusted as we settled into the house. While our previous robot vacuum cleaner (that we retired once we moved into this new home) was not a Shark model, we are familiar with Shark vacuum cleaners. One of the three handheld vacuum cleaners we own is a Shark, and we also own the Shark HydroVac XL 3-in-1 Vacuum, Mop, and Self-Cleaning System. We have a generally favorable view of the brand and were excited to try this robot vacuum out.Overall, we have definitely found this to be an upgrade from our previous robot vacuum cleaner and it performs much better - but not without a few minor issues which I will outline below.PROS:- Set up is quite simple and does not take a huge amount of time. The functions are relatively easy to figure out and we managed to get the robot vacuum launched and running quickly - sending it out to map the house.- It performs extremely well on our hardwood floors, and thankfully, the vast majority of our home consists of hardwood flooring.- We are satisfied with the vacuum and mopping features. Having owned robot vacuums before, we understand that they are not meant for deep cleaning but to perform regularly daily maintenance to prevent your house from becoming overly filthy in between actual manual deep cleans. If you keep this in mind and are not expecting deep cleaning wonders, then the performance will likely meet expectations for the most part.- Having the self-empty bin is highly convenient and we don’t feel the need to supervise the vacuum as much, which often defeats the purpose of having a robot vacuum. Sometimes, with our old robot vacuum, it would stop cleaning because it needed to be emptied and we were not around to do it.- Navigation, while not 100% flawless, is much better than previous robot vacuums we have owned so far.- This Shark robot vacuum goes back and forth over spots, and seems more thorough with cleaning - especially since it makes an effort with edges and corners.- It performs pretty well with pet hair, which doesn’t seem to jam it up or get tangled very much.- The suction is strong for a vacuum this size!- You can set up no-go zones via the app.- The app is quite functional, and while I felt that it lacked a few features that I would have liked to see (such as the ability to track the vacuum’s movements remotely and see where it is in the house, and the ability to name some rooms correctly because the app just does not offer those room names, like guest bedroom), it still offers a lot of helpful options that should satisfy a lot of the average user’s needs. And while the wish features we found lacking would have been very nice to have, we ultimately find ourselves doing fine without them.CONS:- Mapping in the app is kind of a mess and not very intuitive. I felt that this could have been better designed.- While the robot’s navigation is better than our old robot vacuum, we felt that it had difficulty generating a very accurate map. We are not sure if this could be attributed to the fact that we had just moved in, as I mentioned, and things were in constant disarray. Between the robot and the app, it took us a while to get the mapping sorted to our satisfaction. I highly recommend that you do not do what we did by setting up the robot vacuum while your house isn’t in perfect order with 100% clear pathways. Wait until your home is tidy and more or less the way it normally appears.- The self-empty bin is so helpful but in our household at least, it fills up faster than the product claims. Having said that, we are a pet household, so we might have more debris than the average house.- While this is a dual action robot vacuum and will clean both hard floors and carpet, I find that it sometimes has issues switching between the hardwood floors and a rug. Of course, a rug is not a carpeted floor, and I don’t know if this is an important factor. We don’t have any carpeted floors so I cannot comment on how it performs in that regard. However, there is some clunkiness and inefficiency around cleaning and navigating around small rugs (especially if the robot vacuum is trying to mop the floors and one of the rugs is in the way). We are still trying to figure out the best way to have the robot vacuum not run over the rug with a wet mop attachment and get it wet - which could happen even if it does not actively “mop” the rug.- The robot vacuum is a bit noisier than we expected.Overall, we are still very happy with this robot vacuum and it’s the best one we have owned so far.If you are considering buying one, I definitely recommend investing in the version with the self-emptying chamber. It has made our life a lot easier!

Freegin Awesome (Boxer Dog Owner)!
The media could not be loaded. So my first robot vacuum was an original iRobot Roomba many years ago prior to this auto-dump tech. I loved that thing and it still works to this day, however obviously its nearly daily use maintenance was too much for me to do each time. FFWD to now: I live alone with a boxer dog and am gone to work each day so my home's floor was just too much for me to be able to maintain. I decided to invest in a new tech auto-dump technology robotic vac, which would be perfect. Nutshell: after much research and my great experience with iRobot, I decided to order up their latest and greatest, and at "greatest" cost. Supply chain issues delayed delivery for a month, okay, got that. After a month, emailed company just to simply get an update. Did this four or so times over the following month. I received zero, absolutely zero responses, to my utter surprise. Placed two phone calls in to their customer service, and each time after on hold for 45 minutes, I gave up. I was willing to wait - but.... Their product originated in development from the USA, by higher ed students originally afterall. Wellll, suffice it to say I experienced the outsourcing effects of their company. To cancel, I ended up having to go to the lengths of changing my credit card number, updating auto-charges from other providers on that account and it was THEN that I FINALLY heard back from iRobot. Who would want to invest $1300 in a device with zero company customer service response after 4-6 or so tries? Not me. So saddened to see yet another great company to sail off our lands. So I decided to give Shark a try at half the price-I have some of their appliances which have been great. First delivery didn't go well, and that's because I didn't pay attention to the exact model AND the seller. It arrived, I set it up, and the battery would not take a charge. Turns out it was a "previous" model - obviously had sat on some shelf for who knows how long. Returned, and Amazon covered my back on this. More research showed me that that unit wasn't the current model. I decided to order this one which at this time is the CURRENT model, and sold THROUGH Amazon, fully returnable. I can not say enough about this little critter! It's just amazing! This robot vac has made a huge difference to my home. I don't really understand the other reviews' complaints about it's vacumming "noise" be it while operating or on its base in sucking out the bin. It's absolutely no louder than my wired Dyson unit while "sounding like an airplane taking off," for all of less than 10 seconds. To me, the freegin louder it is, the better it's cleaning out the robot! I launched it without even preemptively vacuuming my home- it worked hard and it took a few good cleaning out's to get it more leveled out and that's on me. I made a few changes to my home physically and reset its map by deleting the map (put my couch up on hockey pucks for access-it's about 3.5" tall). It's now re-learning my home and doing a fantastic job after several runs! I can add "high traffic 'rooms' " or areas layed over the top of overall rooms. Contrary to other reviews I've read, probably earlier ones, you can add rooms and name them to your use- I've overlayed "rooms" over larger "rooms." I love this thing! I can't believe it's only been a month of use - I've used the crap out of this thing. No issues and very adaptable. The only thing I look forward to is to be able to program more than one program. You can currently program one session- per day, per week, every each day of your choice, but of your selection of rooms identified including all of the rooms. Can't do an additional sub program of, say, "high traffic areas," which I've added as additional "rooms." I've read that is coming in future software updates. iOS WiFi connectivity is great. Map views when swiping give you more than one historical map of effected coverage. At half the price, "customer service" response remains to be seen (I've not had to), I would recommend this unit. Just make sure you look at current models, and not the older very similar looking models. As with any robotic vac, I'd recommend a home, or shop-use air compressor with regulated output to soften as needed for blowing out all as needed. I also found some great video reviews online that taught me a lot about this model line- very similar responses. By design, one can tell older vs newer units simply by how its dump cannister is designed. The map image I am attaching is one of its first runs of learning, and you can see it did a really good job of coverage for its first attempt. Smaller home in my case but numerous areas-after which I edited rooms, areas and overlayed high traffic areas as additional rooms for double-cleaning. It's been great once my home floor condistions leveled out and the robot can easily cover all areas. Not hard at all- give it a whirl! Hope this helps some. r-
