A solid title, stops just short of greatness
Overall, this book is very well put together and the chapters build on each other nicely. You don't have to know too much about Unreal, Blueprints or C++ to approach this book, but it certainly helps if you have experience or read around these topics first. There are 2 things stopping this from being a 5-star bible. The first is that Chapter 10 was quite buggy - The Actor instructions won't work as described (This is because a collision object is required for the previous code for Interactions to actually work) - it felt like a sloppy copy and paste job, which is not unusual for a Packt title, but spoilt what was otherwise proving to be a great exception to that rule. The bigger problem I have with this title is that the penultimate chapter (Deploying Multiplayer Games) had the potential to make this book worth it's weight in gold, alas, it was a bit of a cop-out. It explained obtaining and compiling a custom build of UE5 very well, but then proceeded to use a black project rather than grasp the nettle and use the game you've been developing in the previous 13 chapters - which is a real shame. It would have had much more real-world application and so, in the end, you do indeed get shown how to compile a server build, but it's utterly useless and doesn't demonstrate client discovery over the Internet (which would have been outstanding). If you're new to this topic, it's a worthy purchase, just don't expect to be able to ship something by the end of it.
