Has a mysterious feature that puzzle you. Read more!
This particular model was at an ideal price point. It came with a little USB power support, the cable length was nice and long for the distance that I needed for my install and it worked immediately. The sensor that receives the output of your remote has a little green light which is on all the time I'm not really a fan of that. So you can paint it or use a very dense marker to cover that led as it provides no useful information yes here comes The mysterious part hold on to your hats. The in-depth instructions that you receive with it states that it has a green and red LED, I naturally assumed that that would allow you to track when it detected a signal by a changing color. But like so many things in my life that wasn't the correct answer so I was proven wrong. I tried plugging it in in a different socket I let the power stay off for a minute nothing that I did would cause the red LED to come off until. I was testing locations and I supposedly looking away and I caught a glimpse of a red LED in my peripheral view, I don't know which key I pushed or if I even push the key however I was unable to replicate that. And that's where the mystery lies why would you put it in an instruction manual and why does it exist?. this seems to have had no effect on the functionality of the device it is a great relay device and perfect for the price I would highly recommend it. If you're like myself and want to keep things a little stealth just black out the LED area and you won't have to think about it again. that's one of the joys of the little device. Unlike so many electronic devices I purchased over the years they seem to work but then you're constantly having the monkey with them for one reason or another to get continued favorable outcomes. Now I know a lot of you are probably thinking well this device it's not really much else it's just a simple relay for range extender. But I would counter that is just the point there are so many ways this device could have been a failure but it's not and I find that very satisfying it's wonderful to have something that you can count on in your life. And it is so good that Amazon is able to allow me to get this product brought over here across the high seas from a far away and mystical land that serves to enhance my meager existence in this world. If only this kind of attention to detail and talent went into other devices that one could purchase what a better world we would have. I think there must be an enterprising student out there in college or high School that could essentially write a manifesto on this particular device used as a building blocks for a more sustainable and productive society in fact the society that became the last society on Earth because perfection was achieved. If you have continued reading I am not sure how you were able to do it as for the last two sentences I've been doing everything that could to get you to close this review you are persistent headstrong individual in life you don't want to let one moment of time slip through your hands you want to grab the bull by the horns and go to the right of your lifetime you appreciate useless discussion and comments. Bless you, bless you, bless you sir or madam I salute you as a proud world citizen.

Great product if you understand it!
So, I looked around quite a bit before buying this, and ultimately settled on this one, despite the mixed reviews! I have a very nice entertainment set up in my room, and my problem came when I got a huge bed and the only thing that struggles to control on the remote is the Samsung Blu-ray player which is quite low on my TV stand- I have to hold the remote really high for it to have that line of sight and work! after reading the reviews on this extender, It looked like to me that the product was effective, if you knew what you were doing.. I was willing to give it a try! First, you've got to understand how it works! I've included a couple pictures as an example....So the bottom line is, you must have a direct line of sight from your remote to the eye of the extender, and a direct line of sight from the blaster to the intended device eye! I used a flashlight to see exactly where the eye is on my Blu-ray player, simply shine a bright light on an angle on the front of your device, and it will light up the eye through the tinted dark plastic of any device! Remember, if you are trying to control multiple devices (like in the case of putting your complete entertainment set in a closet or cabinet) you will have to get the model with multiple blasters, one for each device you want to control! Each blaster must be put directly in front of the eye on each device to be controlled! I placed mine just below the IR receiver of my Blu-ray player so that when the remote does have a direct line of sight to the eye of the device it'self, then it doesn't have to depend upon the extender.. This only matters to me, and you can set that up to your preference. Now the other part I saw in the reviews was some people having trouble with the eye of the extender, saying that you have to have your remote really close or it doesn't work at all... I experimented with it a little bit, and once again I shined a bright light on the device and could see right through the tinted plastic to see where the eye was placed- I did this because my initial set-up was similar in the fact that it was not reading the commands from my remote unless I was within a couple feet max! What I learned is that the eye is on top, or facing upward from what you might think is the front! I originally had it placed the device on top of my small Bose remote controller in front of the TV, but in that position the eye didn't get a clear signal from my remote. As I said, I had to experiment and try it in a few different positions to see what worked best for me, and I settled on the position you will notice in the photo- standing up, with the top facing forward, with the sticky tape stuck to the silver TV stand above my Bose controller. I now have perfect control of my Blu-ray player virtually anywhere in the room!I hope this helps! What I like:-Seems well built for the low cost!-Low profile eye piece and blaster, doesn't look bulky, out of place, or unintended. What I didn't care for:-The bright light on the eye piece and the power supply! (more on this below)-The lack of instructions and information for set-up! If you weren't tech savvy, you most likely would have set it up wrong! What I did for the bright light on the eye piece and the power supply adapter was color the light with a black permanent marker... You don't see the marker, it doesn't make it look any different, but it blocks a decent amount of the light, and you still see it flash when you are using your remote! Now it is far less intrusive when watching a movie in a dark environment!

Does what it should. Foolproof simplicity.
This "IR Bug" is exactly what you expect it to be. It and works and has reasonably long cables. I bought a 60 inch TV to put over the fireplace so having the old TV cabinet open to control the Tivo and Stereo was unacceptable to my wife. All of the equipment except the Tivo works with HDMI-CEC protocol, (Why Tivo, why???) so I just needed one transmitter for theTivo. I was able to plug it in, slap the receiver against the front of the now-closed stereo cabinet, the transmitter near the Tivo receiver and I was done. Took about 3 minutes to install. The reason it only gets 4 stars is this. Wire routing. The IR receiver is the large item that goes outside the cabinet. Why, then, would that be in the middle of the wiring sequence with two wires (power and transmitter) running from it? I understand that this is the part with the electronics, but it is the farthest component from power and the farthest from the component to be controlled. Having two wires means you need to snake one wire from the external receive to your component and the other wire from the external receiver to the power source. Kind of a pain. The receiver should be at the end of the wire, the transmitter in the middle and the power closest to the transmitter. This isn't just a personal preference, it is simple wire routing logic.
