Is dinner done
They go off when dinner is done.Seriously Bought them 10 years ago and was glad to see the same size and the power plug was the same when I felt a need to replace them. Good value for the money.

Light could be brighter.
Models: KN-COSM-IB and i12080. Easy to install and replace. In my state, combination CO and Smoke units must have Voice warnings. The i12080 unit with the light is a nice feature, though could be a bit brighter.I have multiple of both units installed on the "interconnect network" of 110V power. The interesting thing discovered is when pressed the Test button on the i12080, only the other i12080 on the entire interconnect network would sound the alarm test and light up. The KN-COSM-IB stays silent. When pressed the Test button of the KN-COSM-IB, all units on the network would sound the alarm and light up.Weird. Let's see how long the backup 9V battery lasts in these units. Other users have reported horrible experiences.

Good product with poor customer support
If you are having false alarms in the middle of the night (for some reason mine like to go off at 3 or 4 am) there is a very easy fix. Follow these directions hidden on one of Kidde's web pages, and you will have a good working alarm again:"To clean, after disconnecting the alarm and removing any removable battery: hold the unit on its edge and thoroughly vacuum out the gap between the front cover and the back plate all the way around the perimeter with the crevice tool attachment of a vacuum cleaner, or blow through the same gap with compressed air."In addition to using the vacuum crevice tool and a can of compressed air, I also held the unit upside down above my head, and used a narrow brush from my electric razor to sweep out remaining dust and dirt particles. The problem is that no matter how good a housekeeper you are, dust and dirt particles are going to find their way into the narrow crevice that allows the ambient air to pass over the smoke alarm sensor. The one located nearest your kitchen will collect airborne grease from cooking as well. The grease is sticky and will help dust and dander particles to stick inside the unit.I've had three of these installed in my house for six years now. The first time I started getting false alarms, I recalled that instructions somewhere called for periodic vacuuming. I placed the circular brush attachment of the vacuum over the sensor portion, and the problem cleared up. I tried to remember to do that regularly (at least every six months or so), and I had no problems until recently. This time, six years into their lifetime, I started getting these nighttime false alarms. After checking battery levels, I finally googled the problem, and was led to the page on the Kidde website which I quoted above. Problem solved. These are good smoke alarms. The fact that dirt and dust triggers them is a sign that they are working properly. But why does Kidde make it so hard to find the proper cleaning procedure? Why are so many people experiencing frustration with these things, and not finding a proper solution even after contacting customer service. Well maybe they're too stupid to follow the instructions. Or, maybe Kidde actually wants us to throw them out and buy new ones. It's hard to say. But, if the batteries are not the problem, follow the instructions above, and you'll probably get good results.

Perfect replacement for a LIGHTED Wired alarm
Had to replace another smoke alarm and we had no issues with this item. Removed the old with a screwdriver, installed the included wiring connector and screwed in the base. Rated for 10 years and has 2 9 volt batteries included. The previous from another maker did not last four, went back to Kiddie because the cost and reviews were great.

Perfect Hard wired fire alarm for rentals.
I bought two...used one....then put the other on the shelf for just in case...today I pulled it off the shelf and used it on a hardwired rental smoke detector. It works gteat... is not the easiest to click into place though...sorta hard actually..plenty room for improvement...if money is no object get the $50 model...this one exceeds rental specs for 40% less $.

Exact Replacement
We had some old, hard wire smoke detectors. Did some research, these replacements hooked up the old unit wiring, with a little adjusting of the clip. These also have a battery back up and a light. The new detector base was a little bigger, to cover the paint marks. Exactly what I wanted.
