Excellent Mic
I bought this microphone to use with my Q-See DVR security system as the cameras that came with the DVR do not have sound. I zip tied this to one of the cameras in the front of my house and it attaches to the cameras power connector with a pass through connector. I did need to wire that camera with a cable that carries video, sound, and power. The Q-See cable only carries video and power. No big deal as the cable I needed is available on Amazon and is cheap. This mic is really sensitive. I can hear everything in the immediate area clear as a bell. It picks up sound 50 feet away clearly. It also appears to be weather proof as I am using it outdoors with no problem. It also came with a sticker to warn people they are being recorded. Great product at a great price.

Works great, can't go wrong for $8.
Hooked this up to my Zmodo 4 channel DVR-H9114V. I can hear a conversation at normal speaking voice from 20 feet away in a different room than the camera/mic. I can REALLY hear a conversation well in the same room as the mic. If I am yelling at a moderately high volume (not my loudest) I can hear myself testing the unit through 2 walls. The only issue I have is a ground loop 60-hz-ish sound. I used really cheap RCA cable (like the kind that comes with a cheap dvd player) so it could possibly be picking up my fluorescent lights. For $8 bucks on Amazon Prime you can't go wrong. One thing to note however is that Blue Iris (at least at the time of this review, v3.66.00, cannot "hear" the audio from the video stream. The zmodo DVR records the audio fine. As a temporary solution I have a virtual machine piping the audio into blue iris via a virtual audio device. This will only work until I buy another one of these, which I plan on doing soon.

very useful
I've been using 4 of this mini audio pick-up continuously indoors for more than a year. I coupled this to the cctv camera 12VDC power supply. Unfortunately I installed one near my wall clock(about 2ft away). It is so sensitive that the annoying tik-tak noise of the wall clock keeps on ringing my ears every time I select that channel from the DVR monitor, so I decided to relocate the clock. Even the barking of my dogs outside can be heard as well as other background noise. I tried installing one outdoors and it is working fine however the noise is terrible during windy days so I decided to keep it indoors. This is very helpful in monitoring what's going on at home when Im at work.I can see my cctv and hear the audio using online monitoring. I can hear also if my wife is cursing me lol...for the price I think I get my money's worth. This could have been better if there is noise cancelling filter, but for a mini mic to have that I think I will have to pay much more. I'm satisfied with the performance so far and would recommend this to others.

Problem with auto amp in noise
Using this on a VideoSecu camera that DOES (already) have a microphone but it's located in a bad spot the way I have it mounted (to the rear). I purchased this item and just strapped it to the camera with a cable tie with no problem. The hookup was no problem (5 min) and you just don't use the audio cable from the camera. The problem is noise... The amp is very sensitive and had an automatic level adjusting control. At first it was great and I heard things I never did before using the original camera mic THEN the neighbors outdoor air conditioner kicked on. I hear the air conditioner kicking on all the time with the original camera mic BUT with this this unit it just shut down and NOTHING was heard, not even the air conditioner. I brought it inside and tried it with same camera power source and it worked great, very sensitive. There is no way to control or set the 'auto level' and it shuts down when it shouldn't. It will 'probably work for Winter (when it's quiet) and in the mean time I may try inserting it into a tube and make a quasi-shotgun mic or some sound deadening material.Overall, good idea, simple setup, uses camera power, but may have problems in noisy environments.UPDATE: It's nowcCool enough air conditioner is not needed so I tried the amp again and slid it next to the camera. Wow, Without the noisy air conditiong (3 feet away) this thing is GREAT. I hear a lot more than with the mic on the camera.Quite happy...

Not User Friendly/No Specs/Odd Connections
Didn't work for my application. I bought this mic because Foscam Tech Support specifically recommended it for my new Foscam F19831P wireless network camera. Unfortunately, none of the connection terminations will work with that camera. This microphone arrives in a Ziplock bag with a laser printed label. There are no specifications or instructions of any kind. The terminations are: a 2.1 male power plug, a 2.1 female power plug and a female RCA plug. This product is designed to be powered in line off of your camera power cable. The Foscam F19831P has the following connections: a 1.35mm male plug, a 1.35mm female plug and a 3.5mm mono mini-jack plug.If you wanted to make this work with the Foscam noted above, here's what you would need:1) A male 2.1mm to a female 1.35mm adapter.2) A female 2.1mm to male 1.35mm.3) A male RCA to mini jack cable.I spent several hours messing with this and gave up because it didn't make sense to buy 3 adapters for a $7 mic. An email inquiry to the seller received no response. If you happen to have this camera, you can buy a Sony lapel mic for about $14 on Amazon that will be plug and play and not have the hassle of this product. Not worth the hassle to return it. The seller finally replied to me and suggested "Please plug the microphone into a regular tv directly to work. 12V DC power supply should be OK". So if you are looking for a mic to plug into your TV, this might be the mic for you.
