These trays are pricey but I've been trying to eliminate plastic and they're the best quality metal ones I could find. They work great, make ice taste better, and work great. The only trick is to leave them sitting out for a couple minutes before throwing the lever so that the cubes pop free instead of being crushed. They freeze faster than the plastic ones do too, so that's an extra benefit. I do wish they were a touch deeper but that might keep them from fitting in some applications so I understand why they did it.

I remember these ice trays as child. When I saw that they still existed, I ordered it. I am so glad I did. From the first crack of the handle, it brought me back to my childhood. It is sturdy, I love it that its stainless steel. I have thrown all my other ice trays out and plan to order more of this one. I highly recommend this tray if you want efficiency, perfect ice every time. When you pull the handle, sometimes it leaves little crackles of ice, shatters some of the cubes, but I love this.

The old fashion ice maker works pretty well.Fill the tray 3/4 full. Any higher makes it harder to break up the chunks. Learning curve.Slightly twist the tray. If the block moves pull gently on the handle to break up the cubes. Use the handle end of a wooden spoon to punch out the stuck cubes.Works pretty well once the correct level of water is figured out. The metal sheets for the cubes is narrow and need to be careful not to be too rough getting the cubes out. Haven't cut myself yet........

These ice trays are the best, I have had plastic and silicone trays and they all sucked! These rock, take them out, let them sit for a few minutes, pull on the handle and crack the cubes and you have a ton of ice.Easy to fill, great old school design that works. They also balance on top of each other inside the freezer.

5 STAR LOOKS WITH NEGATIVE 5 STAR FUNCTIONBought this (small tray version) for our guest cabin and it looks great, very old school. I remember my grandmother had similar ones made of aluminum from circa 1940. Those worked real good so I figured a modern steel tray would work even better. Ummmm NO, it's one of the worst products I ever bought in my life. No matter what you do, even following the instructions results in shattered ice that flys everywhere. It's also VERY hard to physically pull the handle even after letting the tray sit for a while. Running warm water on the bottom doesn't help much either. Just the fact that an ice tray NEEDS instructions tells you something is definitely wrong! Crazy thing, as horrible as this product is, it has a vast amount of 5 star reviews which make no sense. The 1 star reviews make perfect sense however. Further, this is my second review as my original was accepted by Amazon yet not posted when I checked. I think the company is "reporting" 1 star reviews and somehow Amazon is removing them without question.Anyone that buys this tray is going to be in for a $20+ level of disappointment and the trouble of going through a return.

Metal ice trays were all we used in the 6o’s. Inconvenient, but made nice thick ice cubes. This is not that. Not a deep enough tray to replicate what we had in the 60’s and lever does not expel cubes cleanly. The cubes all crack. We purchased because we were without a refrigerator for a month but had a stand-alone freezer to make ice. These were expensive and disappointing.

I’ve been replacing plastics, have wanted one of these for years, and this tray is just as satisfying as I hoped it would be. It seems to freeze faster than my old plastic tray, it feels nice and sturdy, releases the cubes easily, and gives me nice, crisp edged ice cubes. The cube under the arm’s “elbow” does need a little encouragement to release and always looks a little more wonky than the others, but it’s ice. Who cares. The rest pop out easily and perfectly. I only have one tray so I don’t know how well it would stack up in the freezer if there were more than one.This truly feels like another plastic-free, buy-it-for-life items and I highly recommend it.

It comes with instructions. It's best to let the tray thaw a bit before use! I love the retro-ness and the leaver part of it. Breaking the ice with the Handel makes me feel like I accomplished something.Be careful when using it. It is made of metal, and metal tends to be sharp even when dull, which is just a normal hazard with metal objects.Sorry for the short review. It works, it is nice, and I love it!
