Buy This, Not Some (Subscription) ‘Designer Plan’ Pushed on Social Media
A man in my 50’s, I have been looking for a way to lose weight and increase muscle tone. I nearly tapped purchase on several calisthenics or chair yoga ‘designer plans’ pushed to me on social media…but did not want to have manage yet another subscription service and was not sure what would appear on the other side of that tap. So I surveyed my options for a book on Amazon. I am so glad I made this purchase.First of all, I love that Ashley Kalym stresses mastering the basics before moving onto more complicated, strenuous exercises. For me, a complete beginner, this is so helpful and sets workable goals for improvement. He would rather you get the basic push up or pull up perfect than moving onto more demanding exercises because the basics are themselves so foundational and comprehensive in the muscle groups they work out. He presents then several exercise plans that begin with the basics and work on up. So this is very doable, and in itself inspired me to get going. Start small…and build from there. His writing is clear. The pictures and exercise descriptions show you exactly how to perform it perfectly. And he covers hundreds of different body weight exercises, including mobility and stretching. It is a great, comprehensive guide accessible to all levels. If you are looking for motivation to get going, realize this book is low on “rah-rah, go get ‘em, tiger!”-type self-help boosterism. That was totally fine by me. It is a sound, practical guide rich in detail and information. Just perfect!

Not complete
This is a good calisthenics book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that it was missing a lot of information. There's not a lot of exercises with gymnastic rings. It also doesn't tell you how to create a workout. How are we supposed to create a workout if we don't know where to start. It does not tell you how to train for skills. It just shows you progressions. overall, this book is not complete about calisthenics. It needs more information about how to train for everything. How to get better at weighted. How to do more reps. How to hold statics longer. None of that was answered but the exercises were good. The only thing missing was more rings exercises and more indormation about how to train for these elements.

Useful book
Ashley dedicates his knowledge to help different levels of people in calisthenics. I like his way of expressing knowledge as non-native English speaker. Personally I spent way more money than this book on some instgram popular, good body-shaped people with nearly million followers but none of them really provided systematic knowledge and efficient training routine. I recommend this book.

Read this!
This is a must read especially if you are needing to workout but can’t find the time and space. It helps to understand nutrition and the importance of rest and stretching. Things that I have not been so good at. This is a great way to get into shape and keep your health up.
