Happy Purchase!!
We are homeschoolers and we just purchased this book and CD. WOW! It's going to be perfect for our music co-op class of elementary kids. Short, brief, and with a few fun games. I did also buy, Lives of the Musicians: Good Times, Bad Times, just to add some fun and humor for easier memorization techniques. These lessons can be done in a very short time for those with a very short attention span, while offering 17 lessons/composers. Each composer offers a unique project or activity that is relevant to the composer and/or time period. Very happy with this purchase!

Very good book for children!
I'm really enjoying this book for my 7 and 9 year old children. We do the activities orally so that I can use this book for multiple children. I only wish my copy had the cd. I purchased this used and the cd was missing. I have been able to find the suggested listening on youtube. There is just the right amount of information on each composer.

It's been great. It introduces the composers
My nine-year-old is taking piano lessons, and he loves classical music. He wanted to learn more about the composers, so I ordered this book for him. It's been great. It introduces the composers, the instruments they used, and the historical background. We enjoy listening to the accompanying CD too. After reading this and Book 2, I plan to look for more detailed biographies of his favorite composers.

Love these books
I've gotten both Book 1 and 2 for my daughter, and she used one in 6th grade and one in 7th, and she loves them. These really make composers interesting to kids, and you can use them as a jumping off point for further study. The CD that comes with each book is very easy to use and is of high quality as well.

Nice book but kinda expensive for what it is
The book does not have a CD. I was expecting a CD because of the price. It gives brief history on composers and has activities in it…word search and fill in the blank questions etc. It’s not a thick book. I bought it for my son to learn some general knowledge of composers for quiz bowl. It should serve the purpose.* I don’t know if I would necessarily recommend this book. After looking through it there are only 4 composers that he needs to learn about in this book..all others will be from other sources.

Excellent for Homeschoolers
I use this with Meet the Great Composers book 2 for my homeschool class of 5 with ages from 8-17. The CD is nice to have but not absolutely necessary as you can find most of the composers on youtube. Each lesson is 20 minutes and helps children with appreciation of music.

Wonderful
I was very pleased with the content of this book. The composers history was accurate and interesting, although for a more thorough look into their lives, you can supplement with additional books from the library. The CD that came with it was great to have. My kids love learning from this book!
