We live in the southwest and put about 175 luminarias on our stucco fence top for Christmas. It can be very windy where we live. In the past, we put heavy duty rubber bands around the base of each Luminaria to prevent them blowing away. Rubber bands get brittle in cold weather and break. We decided this year to get something that would not break and be useful from year to year. We were very happy at how easy they were to use, will end up being much cheaper than rubber bands and can be cut to size. They also held up very well to cold weather. The only thing we are sorry about is that we didn’t do it sooner.

I was buying the stretchy cord from REI by the foot. Decided to get this one as it also comes with the lock end. The lock end seems to work fine, but I'm disappointed in the stretchy cord. The stretch feels very weak. The cord reminds me of my hair tie bands that loose the stretch after a few uses. My first usage with the cord and lock end is I made a cinch loop for my yoga mat. I'd roll up the mat, loop the cord around, cinch down the lock end. But the mat always opens a little inside the loop because the stretch was weak. I was going to use it to rig a few accessory tie-offs for my backpack. I am not not confident that they will be very useful.
