Ready for train to travel around Christmas tree

I ordered this train to place beneath our Christmas tree since I always wanted one as a kid. This is my first train set, so I'm not an expert but to me the quality is really good. The tracks that this set come with are great for use under my tree, where they rest on top of the tree skirt and our shag rug and the train still runs perfectly. Other sets have just regular tracks but these are flat on the bottom so they are much better at being place on uneven surfaces. I also have found the quality of the sounds really good from the chug a chug to the sound of Mickey to the whistle and the hiss when it stops. When we were first trying it out, my whole family was laughing and smiling. My five year old plays with it every day and loves it.We like using the wireless controller to control the train, it's much more fun to control the speed and and other functions with physical dials and buttons. I have used the app to adjust some of the sound settings (you can get really granular) to lower the chug a chug while making the sound effects louder. The app is OK, it looks like it was designed 10-15 years ago. It's good enough to get the job done but my only use is to adjust some settings.I would also recommend getting a power strip with an on/off switch as you are supposed to unplug the train when not in use. It's much easier to flip the switch on a power strip then unplug it every day. Also, the smoke solution that it comes with puts off a smell like a candle that has been blown out (it can get overwhelming after a while). I would go ahead and invest in a replacement that actually makes a pleasing smell (there's all kinds of options out there).My one minor complaint is the only light on the train is the headlamp on the engine. It would have been nice if the caboose windows would light up and the some of the other cars had working string lights. Everything else is nice and works really well, so I'm not taking off for that.This train is a blast and has been a really fun addition to our holiday tradition in my house. It's especially nice in the morning where my wife and I can drink our coffee while my daughter plays with the train in the other room. I definitely feel like we are making some magical memories.

I bought this train last Christmas to go around the tree. When we tried to use it this Christmas it wasn’t working correctly. It wouldn’t travel completely around the track before stopping. We tried several things but still it wasn’t working. We contacted Lionel and they had us send it back for repair. They said it would probably take 4-6 weeks to repair. We were disappointed that we wouldn’t have it returned in time for this Christmas and our granddaughters would be sad. We sent it on November 30. Since that time we received several emails from Lionel regarding receipt and updates on the status of the repairs. We received the repaired train in exactly 2 weeks after sending it. We were very happy with the service. Lionel has a long, excellent reputation for train sets. I have many of their trains, tracks, etc. I would definitely recommend this product. It isn’t cheap but it is a very heavy and well built product. By the way, all that was wrong with it was a remote signal board.

Got these for my 10 year old grandson for Christmas. He loves it and so does his cat. Got around the Christmas tree perfectly and was played with extensively.For a toy it is well made and should last for years.

I was able to get this for an after Christmas purchase so the price was reduced, good product value.

Lionel seems to be putting out nothing but trash. .I have purchased 4 train sets in the last few months. And every one of them has been returned for repairs. I even a $900 legacy locomotive. And the gear stripped out the first two weeks, I had it. This Disney one had a programming issue. It would start going real fast.All of a sudden. I'm still waiting to get this one back from lionel. I purchased the disney frozen train set from amazon. It started having issues after two months, and I contacted lionel and they told me they would not fix it, because it was three years past the manufacturing date. Even though I only had it in my possession for 2 months. Save your money, if you really want a good train set, look into MTH trains

I’ve really enjoyed the train. It’s well made, easy to use. My daughter loves to use the remote.I did end up ordering extra track, I understand why they don’t give you more track up front, but I would have liked more.The sound and connectivity work well enough for me. Lovely set.
