I recently purchased the Broox 2025 Upgraded Solar Animal Repellent, and it has been a game-changer for keeping unwanted animals out of my yard! My reason for purchasing the Broox Solar Animal Repeller with its abundance of functions was to add it to my arsenal of animal repellents to keep unwanted wildlife like squirrels, chipmunks, mice and, yes, groundhogs from damaging my parked car since damages have already exceeded $1500-plus on a relatively new car. I’ve already tried everything else and I mean "everything": mothballs, peppermint oil, cayenne pepper, coyote/fox urine, Irish bar-soap, fragrant dryer sheets, various repellent sprays and granules, etc., and nothing has worked. Nothing ever bothered my older cars so I falsely believed that it was just the few mothballs tossed under the car that worked for decades. Then I learned that all cars made after 2000 have edible insulation and other components and, if hungry animals are looking for food and shelter, I’ve since found out that stinky obstacles like mothballs and the rest do not stop the wildlife but the stinky repellents certainly discourage human from occupying the vehicles for longer than necessary. Repulsive rodent traps and poisons killed a few rodents but didn’t curtail the ongoing damage. Don't expect this situation to change any time soon because service departments of the auto industries that make these edible cars are making a fortune off this, which is why the petroleum-based insulation and less tasty parts of pre-2000 vehicles are not in any new car-owners' future. Having tried and failed with everything else, the concept of ultrasonic repellers is admittedly new to me. I’ve just placed one of these outside aimed at the area beneath the car to repel a wide range of wildlife from approaching the car in the first place and, as advertised, the well-made Broox reacts to motion when approaching the car by flashing lights, audible sound, and ultrasonic sound at the level of operation that I chose (#4). It’s only been a few weeks since I placed the Broox and no wildlife has moved into the vehicle so far but, now that winter is descending on our area and the rodents are actively looking for food and shelter, I will be continuing to monitor the situation and hoping that it works.Update 02/02/2021: Since I live where there can be lots of rain and snow, I bought the repeller because, on Amazon’s site, its description claimed the following: “This outdoor repellent is using high-grade ABS plastic material with the weatherproof and UV-protected construction, which can protect itself against water splashed from all directions and withstand rain, snow, or the harsh sun…”. However, that statement was qualified by an insert that came in the box with the repeller, advising the purchaser to bring the repeller inside out of the rain and replace it after the rain stopped, which I thought defeated the purpose of having a repeller if it couldn’t be out there 24/7, day and night, rain or snow, etc. As this was my first solar-powered anything and my repeller would be sitting out in the open totally unprotected from the elements, it worried me when, after a rain one night, I saw water droplets remaining on and around the solar panel on top and in the various indentations on the back for screws and around the battery compartment’s indented gasket. I brought it in the house, dried it off, and, while it was in the house, I charged it again for good measure. However, I knew that I wasn’t going to babysit this device 24/7 from raindrops and, with its very short stake driven into the ground, it would be buried and even more inaccessible in our area’s winter snows. While researching repellers on the internet, I read a review where a purchaser of a similarly-shaped brand slipped a plastic bag over their repeller and it continued to function in inclement weather. Instead of returning the Broox after reading the rain qualifier in the box, I decided to experiment myself and learn something. I slipped a QUART-sized plastic food bag (perfect fit) over the Broox and zipped the bag closed underneath on either side of the short stake. I then took the newly charged Broox outside and left it there about six inches off the ground on its stake. That was at the end of October and it is now February. For the past three months, it’s been sitting out there in the sun, in the rain, and in the snow (which occasionally buries it completely). Between what little heat may be generated by batteries and the dark color of the Broox absorbing the sun’s rays, the snow quickly melts off the device, and that’s been enough in my northern latitude to keep it charged without bringing it into the house for recharging with the USB cable. On setting #4, the last-USB-charged-in-October Broox still flashes, audibly chirps, and (I assume) sends out ultrasonic sounds that successfully repels whatever wildlife wanders nearby because I don't see mice, squirrels, groundhogs, rabbits, cats, or deer in my driveway and front yard anymore. I’m impressed by it.
