Great advice, practical, and actually fun to read
Despite this being required reading for a graduate class, I looked forward to the reading time each week thanks to this book. It complements the PMBoK guide nicely. The PMBoK guide has the technical knowledge (albeit in a pretty dry format) and Siegel has such a wealth of real world experience. It felt like a wise mentor sharing hours of wisdom over coffee. Some of it went beyond typical project management teachings, explaining the nuance you might actually encounter in the industry (Avoid project creep, but sometimes it's strategically necessary to keep good reputations and customers happy, and here's how you figure out the difference...) I particularly appreciated the outside of the box thinking, for example, presenting workers with various thinking challenges, as well as how to gain a competitive edge by figuring out what the customer actually values vs. what they say they want. These little tidbits aren't in most books and really can give you an edge in the industry over competitors. More general project management concepts were presented in a clear, approachable way. This is a book I hope to come back to and revisit every few years.
