This is an important contemporary work
This text shows clearly the importance of recognising that human growth frequently accompanies the distress of trauma. It moves our attention away from a preoccupation with symptoms and the contagion of trauma and towards out innate capacity for growth. It grounds therapy practice in the fundamental values of person centred counselling and a respect for client choice.

A true voice of sanity (very much needed) in uncertain times
An excellent book. I have just read it and I know I will read this book lots of times.Professor Stephen Joseph makes a great deal of sense. He has worked with many people who have experienced trauma. As a result he wanted to see what makes people come out of trauma and thrive/flourish in life. He writes about this in his book and he has talked with Terry Waite amongst many others. He is a true voice of sanity (which is very much needed) in uncertain times.

Learning how to THRIVE
A fantastic book for both academics and those interested in how to move forward having experienced trauma.Interesting case studies, linked to the science and research. Not only did this support my Positive Psychology studies but helped me to grow as an individual and move pass previous traumas in my life with a more positive outlook.

Valuable, Wise and Practical
Dr Joseph shares what he had learned by working with, and counselling, survivors of various traumatic events - and what he has learned from the large minority, about 40%, who experienced post-traumatic growth, those who were able to go beyond coping, or avoiding, and move onto hope, and valuing change even in the worst circumstances. The THRIVE model is practical and the whole book is immensely wise.
