Is this the typical quality of this switch? It was very convenient for my elderly mother while it worked. But apparently it is of poor quality. Would like to hear back from the vendor about this.UPDATE: After contacting the manufacturer, they sent me a free replacement which I received within 3 days.. The customer service was very professional and was happy to resolve this to my satisfaction. I am hopeful that this will have resolved the issue.

I have gotten four of these switchable plugs since I found them a few years ago. I use them to turn on banks of hanging overhead LED lights in my basement, daisy chained to approximately 200W per plug. These are an important solution because none of the outlets in the basement are on switches, so my only option to turn them on and off at the wall is with a product like this. Be careful, though — this item should only I’ve used for switching light loads and not serious appliances (see below).Especially in older houses like mine, I can definitely imagine these being useful due to the more limited electrical systems. But I also see potential uses in areas where one might like a switchable item (e.g., lamp) and an always-on item (e.g., phone charger) running off the same plug. The wire is fairly attractive and the switch is non-obtrusive.This particular item uses a digital switching circuit to flip a relay at the plug, as opposed to switching the AC mains voltage. This method has the benefit of the switch end running only low voltage DC, but the drawback of complexity and durability. I had one defective unit that I returned and replaced through Amazon (relay would not stay closed past a couple seconds) and one unit that was accidentally burned out by a repairman in my house plugging in a vacuum. In the vacuum case, I wasn’t really surprised the unit failed due to the high inductive inrush current. I attempted to open up the plug in case there was an easy fix (e.g., replaceable fuse). It was clear very quickly that the unit was not going to open up for me, which is fine and fairly expected. With repair out of the question I cut the unit open just out of curiosity for how it works. An externally replaceable fuse would be a nice design upgrade, but isn’t really expected for a product of this nature.

This is a second remote outlet switch for a laptop we bought. The first one has a button that stays down in the on position. Easy to see if it's on. This one has an electronic switch and can't tell right away if it's on or off. Only drawback.Quality seems high. Color choices are good.

I use this switch to turn on/off all my wall mounted computer speakers at once. I use to have to get up to turn them all on/off individually. This saves a ton of time and effort and I use it multiple times every day.

i had a previous one that was a different brand but the button stopped working sometimes. i bought this and it works just as promised. i love the idea of colors as it stands out and helps my family find it so it doesnt just disappear in the covers. great purchase so i don't have to have the lamp right next to me as i would not be able to get to the on off switch anyway, but i can now. yeah

I hate lamps with the little twist switches, and they tend to be hard to reach when I'm comfy in bed or in tall lamps. This makes turning the lamp on and off a lot easier. I also have a lamp in the babies room. I don't want to turn the lights on at night to change a diaper because it's too bright, but it's hard to find the lamp switch in the dark while holding a crying baby. This button has made that a heck of a lot easier!

Nice cord and variety of colors, works great. Perfect for my lamp that has a three way bulb kind so now I can turn off with one push of the button rather than clicking thru 3 levels from the old fashioned three way bulb set up. Probably easier on the bulb too so it can last longer. Happy with purchase.

Quality looks good, compact, bought these to replace a wireless switch, so far very good, happy with the product, maybe could be good to have the connector on the side instead of the front, switch is not that compact but it feels sturdy

Very helpful product. I use it to externally turn on my laptop which sits in a stand and is hooked up to an external monitor and keyboard. I activated "wake on ac" in the bios so whenever power is connected, it boots. This way I don't have to hunch down under my desk, pull my laptop with all of its cords out from its stand, open it, press the power button, close it, and put it back onto its stand all while trying not to knock my router and usb hub off the shelf. My only gripe is the button resets in the off position when disconnected from power, so if my power goes out when I'm at work, my laptop will eventually die.

No more bending down to unplug cords.
