Built to work and to last, beautifully
This table is exactly what I was looking for in my kitchen. It is both practical and beautiful. I recently renovated my kitchen and it is one of the most frequently complimented features. My microwave and toaster oven fit (stacked) on the shelf underneath and the worktop is my favorite prep area. I prefer the feel of the wood over hard countertops for most things and enjoy using it daily. The table is very sturdy and the adjustable feet allowed me to get the work surface perfectly level so nothing I set on it ever rolls away. I balked at the price of this table at first, but now that I've experienced the build quality and beauty of the product, I feel that the price is very fair (low, even!). I don't expect that I will ever have to replace this table and, with proper care, the work surface will only get better with age. You can't say that for too many products these days. This table was built to work and to last, and it appears to do both.I believe that the Boos company did, in fact, improve their packaging. My table came boxed and bundled fully with adequate cardboard padding around the various components. There was one slightly bent edge on the shelf, which does not bother me and does not interfere with assembly or function. Assembly was easy and I was able to unbox, assemble, and position the table in my kitchen without any assistance.I strongly suggest that you purchase the Boos Mystery Oil with the table and oil the wood as soon as you get the table. The wood is extremely porous and sort of dry and pale looking when you first get it. It needs to be oiled! The oil brings out the full beauty of the wood and protects against stains and water damage. I cannot say I've done comparison tests with other butcher block oils, but the mystery oil did a great job on my table and I see no reason to switch to a different product.

Worth every penny!
I read a few negative reviews, but I also knew that Boos is a great company. I ordered it anyway. I have to say that I couldn't be happier.First, I'll say that the packaging issue looks to have been corrected. My table was securely packaged with absolutely zero damage to the box or the contents. Also, I saw some reviews that mentioned some chip-out and/or filler in the top. Mine DOES have a little of that, but it's on the underside of the top. Having some knowledge of woodworking and panels, it's customary to have an "A" side and a "B" side. They seem to have done a great job in arranging the offcut pieces before the glue-up so that the "A" side is perfect. And yes, as stated in a previous review, this has no affect on the performance or durability of the table. You need to remember that this was made for commercial kitchens, not household furniture.Assembly was easy. That said, I have plenty of tools in the garage. You will need a socket set at minimum. I used an impact driver, myself. Don't tighten any screw in the bracket until you have all four started. If you do this they will line up just fine. With patience, one person can assemble this by their self, but two people will make it easier to install the bottom shelf.Lastly, the table does not have a finish on it. You will need to take the time to properly oil and wax the top before you can use it. This takes a few days. Buy the Boos oil and plan on using a lot. Apply it liberally, let it sit overnight, then repeat for a total of three nights. (Mine was thirsty and absorbed nearly a quart.) After that, you need to apply the cream wax and let it sit overnight. I had to wax mine twice. It was worth the effort, though. Mineral oil will work fine, but I like the fact that the Boos oil contains carnauba. I know that carnauba dries harder than most waxes, so it seems reasonable to assume that this will harden the wood a little more after it's been absorbed into the grain.Bottom line, this is a beautifully made, commercial-grade table that I'm sure will outlast me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is considering this purchase. I'm very pleased.

Rock solid work/ food prep table!
I love this table! Beautiful piece of wood, and really sturdy steel legs and shelf. Assembly was pretty easy with just a couple simple tools. I'd recommend using a level when installing the adjustable shelf. I added a set of casters to it for mobility. I can use this indoors or outdoors when preparing bbq or drinks or anything else. A little pricey, but I feel when cared for properly, this will last a lifetime. Worth the money.

Excellent Quality!
Very easy to assemble with two people. It arrived safely packaged with no damage. Love the sturdiness of the steel and quality of the wood. Perfect kitchen island for smaller spaces, and much cheaper here than on the John Boos website!

Poor quality control spoils a good table
This is a very sturdy table, and it looks good. However, there are three quality control and design issues that make it a poor purchase. The photograph shows one of the leg height adjusters that arrived broken because the aluminum casting is faulty. Using an aluminum part for an adjuster that takes the full weight of the table may be a design issue anyway. The legs are sturdy and very similar to 1 5/8 inch fence posts. They may not be suited to interior use because a black residue on the surface continues to be produced after several cleanings. The leg diameter seems too small for the top brackets, which have an I.D. of about 1 3/4".Two of the blocks that make up the butcher-block composite have splintering faults in the upper, work, surface that may need routing out and filled. A good product spoiled!UPDATE. Boos sent me a replacement kit of 4 very sturdy and handsome adjustable feet. I have, therefore added two stars to the overall rating.
