Good overview of only the new features in 2012. Lacks depth.
If you want to a good overview of the new features in SQL 2012, this is the right book to start.Mind you, this book doesn't cover all the details necessary to master SQL 2012, which has become several major pieces of software in one. What other software provides top-notch enterprise relational database, ETL (SSIS) services, Business Intelligence (SSAS), and Reporting Services (SSRS) into one highly integrated package? If Microsoft vastly improves Excel's statistical (particularly regression) capabilities, then many enterprises and SMB wouldn't need expensive 3rd party software for its data, data analytics, and data mining needs.Right now, SQL 2012 has as much, if not more, robust features than its competition. Yes, MS SQL still lacks Oracle's RAC capabilities, but RAC's performance can be easily duplicated by horizontal and vertical partitioning of the tables. After reading this book, it is obvious SQL 2012 is a major upgrade from SQL 2008.Pros:1)Provides a good overview of the NEW features in SQL 2012. This is not meant to be a general overview of SQL 2012.Cons:1)No in-depth coverage of any topic. But good enough coverage to get a good overview of the underlying technology.

User-Friendly for Newbies to Database Management
Who enjoys reading technical material, especially when they are exposed to a particular topic for the first time? I don't even care much for instructions that come with purchases. They are written from the perspective of a technical person. As a first time user, it can be frustrating to understand technical details. Usually, I just glance at instructions and toss them.I needed the book for a college database management class and was pleasantly surprised. It is clearly written and includes easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. There was not an ounce of frustration. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the book. Most importantly, I was able to retain the majority of the material and could apply my knowledge at work right away. After I had completed the class, I was still able to use it as a reference source for my job.

Does a great job covering all the new features
This is an excellent tome for all the new goodies included in Microsoft SQL Server 2012.SQL Server 2012 included many new features, all of which are covered in this book. Data Quality Services (DQS), Column Store Indexes, the new tabular SSAS model, and semantic search, to name just a few.In addition the enhancements are also covered, such as to the engine and security. But it also hits on other areas, such as MDS (Master Data Services), SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).Best of all, it's a good read. Not the boring drudgery you find in many computer books, the writing is lively and personal.

True to it's Name
It's important to understand the purpose of the book. The book is about Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2012, and it does exactly that. It's a book that introduces you to what SQL 2012 is, what features it has, and what it's capable of. It's not intended to be an indepth technical book on SQL installation, management, programming, etc. There are entire series of books dedicated to specifically those subjects. If you want a quick refresher or update to what's new, this is a quick and simple book to do so. If you're interested in SQL server or just databases it's worth the read.

Good Book
Needed this book for a class. Although the class states this book is not just for DBA's, the book is tailored for those with DBA experience. It does a nice job of trying to explain to the beginner about SQL Server 2012, but uses terms which would not be familiar to the beginner.

Great stuff
This is a great book giving great fundamental information about the up coming MS SQL server 2012. Knowing what changes to expect, and gives you a heads up when upgrading your existing server.Making it an ebook and allowing me to read on my iPhone and iPad is a big plus, since it makes search much easier.

Got to start somewhere.
I wanted to understand what is SQL server is about since learning Excel the spreadsheet, and moving onto Access the small database. Now SQL Server is the bigger data twice as much power as normal access does. This good book has made it as a reference for me in my quest to hold larger amount of data at the same time teach me the things that makes the server works.

Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2012
A reasonable introduction to the processes and issues with SQL server 2012, could be used as a pre-reading activity prior to training on the system. It does however expect a prior level of knowledge of SQL and therefore if you have no experience of SQL this book would not provide the base training.
