The title says it all: "Become an Effective Software Engineering Manager"
I have recently transitioned to a leadership role and this book has been my "bible". The author managed to engage me from the beginning by giving real examples and great tips. This is definitely an amazing book that covers modern engineering managers.

Practical and relevant
The book is clearly written and gave me some practical steps that i could implement. Depending on the level of experince and the specific organization there might be some that do not apply but the ones that do are quite helpful and practical.

Effectively fills a gap about transitioning your career
There's a lot of books on software engineering, and a lot of books on software engineering management. There's not as much literature about effectively making that transition from engineer to manager - this is a great resource for doing just that.

Fantastic book
This is a fantastic book, full of practical advice for new (and not so new) managers. It's warmly written and covers everything a technology manager needs to do and know to ensure success, laid out in a step-by-step fashion that guides the reader through the topics. It is essential reading and I'll be buying a copy for every new manager on my teams from now on.

Would not recommend to an enemy
Very general book with very little value, unless you're into inclusion and diversity nonsense.

Useful at any point in your career
As an engineer aiming to move into management, this book has helped me envisage what kind of manager I'd want to be, and how to prepare for it. The book covers all aspects of engineering management, from personal productivity habits (several I can already implement), to forming strong relationships and bonds of trust within your team. It doesn't shy away from discussing the challenges which face engineering managers as well, which is great to see.The writing style is easy to get into as well, which is an added bonus; witty and friendly, following a good "narrative".I'm certain I'll be referring to, and recommending this book a lot going forward.

One of the best books on management
If you are new manager, already doing it for some time or even long time manager - take the book and read it. This is the book you can read chapter by chapter when needed. I found ir very helpful when I started and also found multiple times it very useful when was going through difficult situations. Book is very practical and with almost zero bullshit. Very recommended.

Not just for new IT Managers, it’s for anyone who wants to manage properly
One of my favorite parts of the book is the chapter about managing yourself, as a manager you'll want to "delegate" many tasks, but if you do not know how to manage yourself will be a really difficult task.In general, this book can help you to understand what to expect from your day to day as an IT manager, and also gives you some tasks to start doing it properly.

Very basic, but still valuable
I read it 2 years ago, but I decided to make a review now after using parts of the content.Personally I think it is a good introduction for an Engineering Manager. The problem is that you won't be able to understand some of the dynamics present in an organizations just using this book. You'll need some tools not presented in this book that could allow you to think about things not using only your mind. One tools for example could be System Thinking.Anyway, if you just started and you want to understand how to organize your life as a new manager, this could be the book for you.
