This is a wonderful and exciting lamp
This is a wonderful lamp and it has provided me with a great deal of excitement for which I am very grateful. When I first took it out of the box, I thought surely this cannot work. The parts fitted loosely and threatened to disassemble in my hands. But I had little choice, this being the only desk lamp I owned at the time and decided to fit it to my desk regardless. That leap of trust was infinitely rewarding. Not only did the clamp fit perfectly, but having a fixed point of gravity imbued this lamp with stability I had not previously thought possible. When I turn it or adjust the height it offers just the right amount amount of resistance. It illuminates my desk at this very moment and I highly recommend it.

good lamp but a few points
the base does not hold together if you want to move it you can't lift or it will come off. I solved the problem with a zip tie. Also the lamp head has spaces (probably to reduse heat) and I don't like the way that looks. The lamp socket shroud/shade doesn't attach completely or snap into place, and if you try to move the lamp putting force on it, It could come off and need to reattach. more of an old school lamp to me I bet it will last a long time.

Do Not Buy This Garbage.
SYNOPSISThis lamp should be evaluated based on the two distinct functions it needs to serve: (a) provide a secure clamp onto a surface; and (b) provide stable adjustable lighting angles. This garbage singularly fails at both of these criteria. AVOID THIS ITEM.DETAILEDDifficulty Level - How Hard Was This To Use?[_] Beginner[_] Novice[_] Competent[_] Advanced[x] ExpertI had to fight with the crappy clamp for over an hour to get it to provide a SEMI-secure hold. The bell cap on the screw-tight portion of the clamp is cheap and thin metal, which is not SECURED to the clamp! It comes off easily, and that means that the part that is supposed to create a secure hold FALLS OFF when you screw.Build Quality[x] This felt very poorly designed, and I recommend against buying it.[_] This felt poorly designed, but "your mileage may vary."[_] This felt like it was adequately designed, with no big pros or cons.[_] This felt like it was well designed, with more pros than alternatives.[_] This felt like it was excellently designed, and I recommend buying it.Build Materials[x] This felt like it was made of different materials than promised, and I warn against it.[_] This felt like it was made of very cheap materials, and I would not recommend it.[_] This felt like it was made of the promised materials, with no big pros or cons.[_] This felt like it was made of higher quality materials, with more pros than alternatives.[_] This felt like it was made of premium materials, and I recommend buying it.Build Safety[_] This felt very unsafe to use, and I recommend against buying it.[x] This felt a little unsafe to use, but "your mileage may vary."[_] This felt safe enough to use, but nothing to write home about.[_] This felt safe to use, with better performance than alternatives.[_] This felt very safe to use, and I recommend buying itFunctionality[x] This did not do what it promised, and I recommend against buying it.[_] This did what it promised, but very badly.[_] This did what it promised, but it was "just fine."[_] This did what it promised, and did it better than alternatives.[_] This did what it promised, with distinction, and I recommend buying it.This was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I absolutely and completely regret buying this item and I warn you that this is going to disappoint you too.

Ok lamp. Inexpensive and maybe fragile
The gloss black" architect" lamp was shipped in the manufacturer's box so quite beat up. The only damage appears to be at one of the triangular hinges where the paint was put on too thick and it chipped off in two areas. Initially I thought the upper springs were missing and was prepared to return, but they were packaged inside the table clamp and instructions bag. The twist knobs at the joints need to be tightened down a lot to keep the arms and head from moving excessively. The metal "socket" on the table clamp to receive the lamp arm tube is kind of a loose and sloppy fit so a short piece of tubing ...or whatever might make it a little more sturdy. Overall it's an inexpensive (cheap) lamp by today's standard so I honestly didn't expect a lot. At least it is mostly metal where it counts. I think they did cheap out at the lamp head which appears to be a plastic connector. I haven't yet received the second lamp I ordered (black with brass accents?) and it is probably the same quality? It was on sale and they were both about $21 whan I purchased. If I really needed another for light duty purposes I would probably order it again, but don't think I would pay more than that. I recall a similar lamp my dad had years and years ago and this is nothing like that lamp in terms of quality. I have no idea what he paid for it though. Probably more than $21?
