Great product, if you also buy rock hammer, chisel, and second goggles
Perfect for our grandson with an adult helper., aside from needing a NOT INCLUDED rock hammer and chisel. Smashing with a regular hammer may be fun and satisfying, but it is not educational. Splitting the geode is educationalThe instructions and 10 geodes were wonderful. We've opened two so far, one a regular geode, and one basically a rock. Our six year old grandson helped us score the outside, when he got bored and left, I could carefully split both: the geode basically down the middle with a displayable piece and lots of fragments; the rock, I split off a hunk that showed the crystals that were the rockBe sure to also order rock hammer and chisel, which increased educational possibilities. The one I bought came with goggles, so we could both protect our eyes.

Great family fun! Fantastic Geode Kit for Rock Enthusiasts!
The media could not be loaded. We recently purchased this geode kit to do with the family as a Christmas gift! and it exceeded all our expectations! The kit included everything needed for a fantastic rock-breaking adventure: 4 rocks to smash and/or chisel, clear instructions, protective glasses, and a magnifying glass to examine the treasures within. We were thrilled to discover 3 amazing geodes, each with beautiful, sparkling crystals inside. One of the 4 rocks turned out to be a solid piece of crystal, which, while smaller than the rest, was still a delightful surprise and not at all a deal breaker. We used the chisel method for two of them and had to use the towel and smash method for the hard to open ones. Our 8 y/o kid absolutely loved the experience! This kit provides an excellent hands-on learning opportunity, perfect for children and adults alike.Overall, a wonderful purchase that brought joy and excitement for family fun. Highly recommend for anyone interested in geology or just looking for a fun and educational activity. Will buy again for sure.

Great value and fun!
I bought this box to teach kids about how beauty comes from within. They had a blast wearing the safety goggles that it came with and then after looking at the crystals through the magnifying glass that it also came with. We had geodes of all different colors. A couple were on the smaller size, like a golf ball, but most of them were the size of a cutie orange or an avocado. The value was also amazing, I was at a store the next day and 1 geode was selling for over $9, so this box was well worth the value and it included the safety glasses, a learning pamphlet and the magnifying glass. I highly recommend this product! I will say we hit the geodes several times and very hard before they cracked open so another time I would try scoring the geode that is suggested.

FUN!! FANTASTIC!!! MUST DO!!!
I have had a huge love of rocks, gemstones, geodes, etc...my whole life. That love went to my Grandaughter.I bought the box of 10 geodes and before smashing I watched several videos explaining how to do it properly. The best suggestion is to use a sock! That way pieces don't fly everywhere. Also do this outside! The crystals inside were beautiful and such a big surprise to her with every one we opened. EXCEPT for 2!!!!! We had 2 rocks, (NOT GEODES) and she was pretty upset about that. Would I reccomend buying these???ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! 💯!!!

Great science teacher gift :)
I was looking for a great gift for the science teacher and knew the whole mug thing wasn’t going to hit the mark for someone who had been teaching for decades. I am sure her cabinets are full! - So I spent some time searching on Amazon to find an appropriate and special gift, but all I really knew about her was she had made science understandable and interesting for the teens in the small private school which was no small feat science my daughter hated science in the past. After perusing the offerings for about 30 minutes, I settled on the geodes kit from National Geographic. Here is what I thought it had going for it:1. It was science related with a reputable name behind it.2. It was a quick-and-easy-to-explain activity if she wanted to do it with older or younger kids or grandkids.3. It was a hands on experience and a physical gift at the same time.4. It was pretty. As a lady, I knew I liked pretty, sparkly rocks (usually in jewelry form though) - so I was hoping she would too.5. It was in my price range. After giving the gift, we discovered the teacher had a special interest in rocks. So it was a good match. It is nice to feel like you purchased a gift that is well received and won’t be collecting dust. She has already made plans to open some of the geodes during a class this year. Thus far it is a raging success.During my research, I discovered that scoring an equator around circumference and using a hammer/chisel to open produced a better outcome than just using a hammer. The hammer alone seemed to produce smaller sections and some crumbled. I would also suggest using some type of holding mechanism, if possible, like a vice with foam padding around the geode. I noticed that many of the people in the videos were afraid to hold it in place while they were striking it to open.Once they are opened in class I will update the review with any feedback I get.Update:Everyone loved it and the teacher made a point of mentioning how much it meant to get a special and thoughtful gift.

Kids had a blast!
This was a gift for grandson, 9, and he had a blast smashing these open. It took several good whacks with a hammer, which was great, because they weren’t flimsy and didn’t just crack open right away; it prolonged the fun.Our granddaughter, 11, got in on the action, too, and she loved it.The crystals inside were great; mainly clear in color, but did have one or two with some blackish colored crystals. There were six or seven good sized geodes. This was lots of fun, and the best one of these type of activity kits we have tried.
