A solid drill
I worked as a commercial electrician for 6 years and this drill got me through all tasks required throughout that time. A buddy of mine actually dropped it from 30ft in the air off a scissor lift around year 4 of use.. still ran great after.I started doing garage doors a little over 2 years ago (where drill use is much more frequent) and I had to buy another about 5 months in.Here I am, 2 years later buying another one. It's lightweight, durable and the only drill I will ever purchase. Pay a bit extra for this model. If you need a hammer drill drop the cash on a decent dewalt hammerdrill model (not the low end ones... there are differences)..... but as far as dewalt DRILLS go this is their best in my opinion.

Nice short & powerful drill
This drill has the nice metal chuck and is short. I have lots of Dewalt 20v tools and bought this drill as a gift for a friend because I knew how nice the drill is. I used my identical drill for several days on jobs over the summer where I drilled about 50 holes in wood and steel and it only used 1/3 of the charge on a 2amp hour battery. The variable speed trigger control works smoothly. And the chuck will take a 1/2 inch bit. I have owned several drills over the years and this is the best one.

LOVE this drill
I had the Exact same drill for years and it worked PERFECTLY building tons of decks, etc. Then I dropped it about 20 feet off of the ground and it died:( So I ordered this same model.I Love the drill. It has two speeds both of which are operated by a variable trigger. This little guy has screwed WELL OVER a hundred pounds of exterior screws and showed NO degree of slowing down (Until I dropped it). There is also an led onboard that lights up where you are working [This One detail you will immediately fall in love with]. It has a brightness level and auto times out after releasing the trigger. It also has a hook which will hook onto a belt, etc....I've ALWAYS just used my jean pocket to slip the hook into.Feel funny saying again that I LOVE this drill but I just do. It's been a major workhorse.

This review is for the tool only and my experience with returning it for replacement.
The first one I received must have been a defective unit, I drilled 3 holes with a very small drill bit into my stainless steel toolbox to mount some handles and it froze up. After trying to free it for a while without resolve I decided to have amazon send a replacement unit. This is one main reason to shop amazon, the replacement came within 2 days, couldn't believe how fast it was here, I boxed up the old one and shipped it back immediately and they let me know when it was received and credited. The new unit has worked flawlessly and I have put it through its paces. with a lot of holes and driving a lot o screws , not issues yet and I don't expect to have any. the drill is solid.

One for Work and One for Home
I really like this drill motor but the chuck, well that's another story. The abrupt stop of the drill can and will loosen the chuck at random, causing you to lose bits in the dirt forever if you are outside. Most people check to make sure the chuck is tight before performing an action. With this you have to check when you finish every time. 95% of the time it's tight.I like just about everything else about this drill. One I used for concrete set-up, constantly throwing it on the ground and in the dirt for years didn't kill it. Now I'm a mechanic and abuse it daily fabbing steel items without any wear at all. It literally works like when it was new in 2015.Now I bought another for home.

Old world finish meets New world technology.
This drill was a replacement drill I purchased after my DCD771 was stolen. This drill does NOT come with a battery, which was fine by me as I had an extra battery already. This is a GREAT drill, going brushless was the best thing I've done, it's considerably more powerful for all applications. I particularly liked how the chuck was metal unlike the plastic ones I've had over recent years, the build quality is stellar. My only gripe with this drill was that it didn't come with a spot to clip a philips / flat head bit on for quick access. It's clearly a tool built for a pro who probably has a tool belt on hand with all the bits he/she needs. I'm just a DIY guy who uses his tools for car, home and community projects. This drill is still considerably lighter than my old 14.4 Dewalt, which now just sits in it's case.

Great improvements over previous models
Had the same drill prior but it was the first of the 20v line from like 5 years ago, it survived everyday hard use and abuse. But finally when it died i needed to replace it, i came on amazon and ordered what i thought would be just the same drill with new markings but happily to my surprise i recieved one heck of a machine. it has the heavy duty feel and build i expected to have and then some, upgrading from the plastic chuck to all steel and the much more powerful brushless motor ive come to love in my many other battery tools, a relocated lamp that has multiple brightness settings and even a 20 minute work light. it hasnt been put through the test of 5 years of work but first impression and use im sure it will be in my kit for at least that.

Powerful
This thing will drive a screw like a HD wired model. It's not as compact as claimed, feels like a normal sized driver. Works well just not "compact".
