This planting auger makes all the difference
The media could not be loaded. Â Here in New England, the soil is rocky and difficult to work. I easily did over 100 bulbs in an afternoon. A fantastic product!

Quick Work of Bulbs
This has been an awkward year, its half into October, and its still warm and rainy. So, bulbs have been sitting in the garage for a while. This also means that I've forgotten I've ordered bulbs.. twice... and now have A LOT of bulbs to plant -- over 200, mostly tulips and some fritallaria. A lot. Here, the soil is clay with rock in it, and I think someone mixed concrete into my yard at some point -- its not fun to dig, and digging 200 holes about 6" deep would be a chore, to say the least.I plugged this thing into my drill and set to work. It seriously took me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. This thing chews through any soil, without complaint. It hit roots, sometimes a rock, and it had no problem. A couple of pieces of advice:Make sure that your drill is easily reversible. You're not going to be able to pull this thing out with thick soil on top, you'll want to reverse back out. You may want to use a spade to clear the hole you just drilled, too, though I just scooped by hand. (The idea of a little magic pile of soil next to the hole is a joke).Wear goggles. I had some material get thrown up into my face while doing it -- though this may be that my drill was overpowered (see below). You don't want to take a stone to the eyeball.Be careful if using a powerful drill not to go too far -- once the drill itself hits the top of the soil, you're burning the motor. In fact, if I did it again, I'd probably buy a cheap cordless drill for this job rather than using my expensive hammer drill. Also, don't use a hammer drill -- an overpowered drill just rams through the soil and once you are in too deep, it'll wrench your arm. Ow. :)

My New Best Friend!
I planted 70 bulbs yesterday in hard, dry dirt! Not only was is so much easier, but it was fun! It's simple to use and easily fit the drill we had on hand. I love it so much I'm spreading the word on Facebook and our towns newsletter. Also love that it's made by a family in Illinois! Great job, Guys! And thanks for making a difficult job FUN!

The 7" Refer to TOTAL length of item - not just the auger part
Here is ONLY problem I have with this really useful product - the advertised length is 7 inches which it is from one end to the other. However if you need to plant bulbs in a 6 inch deep hole you will have a significant problem. The actual auger section is just over 5 3/4". When you use this to auger a hole, the dirt piles up up side the augur so that when you get to 5 3/4 deep you have a ton of dirt covering the end of the drill where the augur attaches. This dirt winds up inside the end of the drill. Not a good thing for a drill especially a pricey battery driven unit. I bought this to drill 6" deep holes for 605 expensive bulbs. I don't want to destroy my pricey battery drill so this item is totally useless if you plan on 6" holes and care about your drill. My solution was to buy the 12" augur version. The 7" one is headed back to Amazon.

Extremely Well Made, Pefrect Design
I received the product earlier than expected, packed very well in a nice box. Instructions are included and I think it is very important to review them as it is more safety information than 'how to'. I grabbed up my drill after reading instructions and headed to some trouble spots in my yard. I live in Central Florida so rocks are not usually a problem. However, sometimes the yard can develop hard spots where the grass will not fill in and the surface is extremely hard, almost like clay. If it is a large area, you can go at with picks, shovels or whatever, but most of the areas I needed to tackle were 4-6 inch circular areas. This is just perfect for those areas! I had all that needed to be done within 45 minutes. I've always been reluctant to plant bulbs and I already know that this is going to be perfect for that task. When you have arthritic hands as I do, with very diminishing strength, it is a joy to find something that will allow me to continue to do the things that bring me satisfaction. This tool is so very well made, impressive weight which helps break through tough top soil. The overall length is perfect, keeps me from going too far below the surface. The blade pitch is perfect, it lifts without throwing dirt everywhere. This would make a great gift for your gardening friends (as long as they have a variable speed drill). I can't believe I can't find anything I don't like about this tool. HIGHLY recommend.

1st use
Ok, first use of power planter and I am impressed. Very wellmade and finished (I purchased mine in pink so it is easy to find)Very easy to use, just chuck in battery drill and go to work. I used a B&D 20v homeowner drill and had power to spare. Makes nice consistant holes leaving a little loose soil in bottom of hole. I have heavy clay soil.I made my living in Quality Assurance and I am very pleased with my purchase. American made from my neighbors to the south in IL, buy great people. The true measure of Quality is satisfied customers!

Invaluable
As a professional gardener I bought the power planter hoping to make life a bit easier. Well, this is a product that certainly does what it says. We absolutely zipped through over 3000+ spring bulbs in half a day. It is one of those pieces of equipment you have in your van or shed and are glad you have it when the need arises.Worth every penny. Already saved me half a days wages for 2 members of staff.Thank you power planter guy for inventing such a useful bit of kit. As they say, the best inventions are the simplest ones.Andrew Hindle

A revolutionary tool
Planting narcissi bulbs in hard, slightly stony ground the augur was brilliant - speeding the process immeasurably. I can't recommend it more highly and will now buy a second, smaller diameter version for planting miniature bulbs. It's a great tool: I demonstrated it to our local nurseryman and he was suitably impressed too.The product deserves to be a great success.
