It's plastic so it should work well for HVAC. The reason for 5 stars is this worked well for me after a trying a few other frustrating options. It seems a little pricey to me so thus the 4 stars. The 6" side went nicely over the existing 6 inch metal tube and the 5 inch side allow for a flexible 5 inch hose to easily go over it. :-) I am a DIYer and in the HVAC world it isn't obvious to me how you determine the fits of a say 5 inch pipe and a 5 inch coupling. In the old days I was familiar with the language of a pipe end being female or male (with no intent to make anyone angry, it's just pipe) but I suppose that is less acceptable these days.

Get the metal one . Unless u want lightweight as I did.. I'm sure the metal isn't that much heavier but I wanted less as possible..

Previously purchased a 4"-5" and it fit great. Need a 5"-6" and it did NOT come close to fitting either side.

I needed reducers for my dust collection setup. 3 out 4 cracked at the 5" side.

Item is very thin and flimsy. About 1.4 mm thick. One of the two ordered arrived broken. I wouldn't use this for my HVAC connections.

OK, this is a great solution to duct reduction. Measurements are spot on, only one thar fit as expected.

Well I have installed it and it works. But it was not easy for my application to install a 6 inch booster fan inline with 5 inch furnace/AC galvanized steel venting. I bought one for each end of the fan. The 6 inch plastic adapter end is too large for the fan I bought, and the 5 inch plastic adapter did not fit with either the female or male end of the vent piping. So I used foam weatherstripping inside the 6 inch end to make a snug fit with the fan, and I used a small section of corrugated aluminum 5 inch pipe venting to go between the fan and the adapter, held with aluminum duct tape. It works but not the easy job I was expecting. It was not available at the time but now I would try the galvanized steel adapter instead. Good luck!
