This is definitely a case of “expectation versus reality“. The ad makes the colors appear much more vibrant than they really are. Rather than a bright orange top as shown in the ad, the reality is a much more dull, washed out orange plastic. The black underwater base is definitely grey. In addition, the backside of the thermometer is full of warnings and other writings which are distracting from the aesthetics. Lastly, the top part, that houses the light, is not transparent, as shown in the ads but is opaque. For $47, I expected something that looked a little more high-end - more marine buoy, and less cheap pool toy. My photos don’t capture the washed out nature.Update. 3/4/21. The battery powered light on top lasts for about 9 days before you need to change the battery.

The media could not be loaded.  After having purchased way too many floating thermometers over the past few years for our family pool, I am so excited that I found this one. My previous small thermometers either stopped floating, had the thermometer come loose from its holster, or were just flat out inaccurate. This Surge thermometer seems to have solved all of those problems. Not only are the numbers big enough to see from far away, but I love that it can be used in and out of my pool. Also, with the humidity in Florida, it's cool that I can get rid of the fogging up by just blowing the humidity out of the gauge to always be able to read the temperature. The flashing light adds a fun touch for the kids, but is also great when trying to locate it at night. Overall just a great quality product.

I thought this thermometer would be the answer to the lack of longevity I have had with my previous pool thermometers. First of all, the base was missing a major part that threads onto the lower body of the device. When I informed Amazon that there was a missing part and I needed to return it for a new one,, their response initially was to say that they could not accept returns due to a safety issue that prohibits returns with this item. This is interesting because if the device has a safety issue, then why are they still selling it? Bottom line: we requested and received a credit in the full amount. I was thinking about using this thermometer after supergluing the remaining pieces but that was a failure. The buoyancy weight separated from the body and sunk to the bottom of the pool. Now, I must go hunting for another thermometer that is actually well constructed and works well. Amazon keeps advertising these $10 - $15 thermometers like I had previously. But I am not repeating that same mistake again!

The thermometer consistently says my pool is 75F degrees over different days despite the water feeling vastly different each day.The thermometer is hard to read. You have to look at it from a certain angle.The battery in the beacon dies after about a week.(maybe they could make a solar version...)The one I got began to take on water. I let the seller know and they refunded my money. I do appreciate it. Just that level of customer service is enough to make me shop with this seller long term.

I was surprised at how big it was but turned out that this one floats and will not go into my skimmer. Stays in the pool. If I want to see it better, I don't have to get down and try to drag it up so I can read it. I just bend over and grab the top and pick it up if for some reason the big numbers don't do it for me.Big numbers.Dunk it down and all moisture inside is washed away and you can read it again. EASY !Haven't had it long but I decided that I like this floating pool thermometer.

It is bigger and heavier than I expected but I absolutely love it. So glad that I purchased!

The thermometer is so cloudy that it is unreadable. This was purchased about 3 months ago. I really wanted to love it but am so disappointed.Update: Good customer service. They stand behind their product!

The issue I have always had with pool thermometers was having to pull them out of the pool to read them. Not with this model. It floats, It is big enough to see from a distance, and looks nice. Even has a buoy marker light on top. It has a foot long tether, but it doesn't really need to be tethered to anything. If you want to tether it, you can also use a longer nylon rope than the one supplied. So, high marks all the way around.
