Advanced Method Writing

This book and the original Method Writing book are two parts of an incredible process which you really must put into practice to understand the true genius of. The one person who gave this a bad review clearly either did not use the tools or just did not understand them. Jack’s process will break your writer’s block, deepen your writer’s voice, and give a tool for any kind of writing you want to do, for any kind of feeling/emotion/tone you want to communicate, and with practice will give you deliberate control over the tonal dynamics of your writing. There is nothing gimmicky about this process, it is EXTREMELY effective if you actually use it to write.

One of the pieces I wrote using Small Dice, which blends the 4 writing tones in this book at random, impressed a retired professor who founded one of the nation's leading literary magazines. I read this same piece at many open mics and editors of literary magazines told me how much they liked it. My point is that the techniques in this book work at are good to add to a writer's toolbox.

Jack Grapes is a great writer and teacher of writing. His method is like no other. I have taken many classes with Jack. His teaching method is unique and this book along with the first Method Writing book is well written, engaging and repetitive to a purpose. You will learn how to be not only a method writer but an exceptional writer.

Advanced Method Writing helped me complete a first short volume by steering me into a different way of thinking about my writing and provided a stimulus to "follow the exercise" which can take you, as it did me, to places I never thought possible.It serves as a wide ranging reference book that I have returned to many times and, on each occasion came away with a new and somewhat different view of the writing process.

Mary Oliver's 'A Poetry Handbook' is much truer to the craft. Other recommendations: Sanford Lyne's 'Writing Poetry from the Inside Out' and Anne Lamott's 'Bird by Bird'.

The method writing process has changed my life. I have become a better writer and have found my voice. I am forever grateful!

Looks like a self-published book. Typos everywhere, and the layout is hands down the most amateurish I've seen in years. It's a chore to read. Pages are crammed with endless quotes, barely leaving room for the author's method. As engaging as he is in interviews, his book is borderline scammy
