A sliver of history
I found this book for $4 awhile back and couldn't believe it. I bought 5 and have been giving them out to coworkers as parting gifts. I will likely buy more in the future but hope the price drops again. The book itself is wonderful. A little big and unwieldy, but shrinking it would negatively impact the drawings so it's a fair compromise. Includes a delightful essay in the front by Wright who was a big writer (Wrighter?) though he's not well known for it. He mostly just wrote about himself so that's probably why.The drawings are in German. It's a downside but it's historically accurate. This is a copy of Wright Wasmuth portfolio, which was published in Germany when he ran away to Europe to escape some personal trouble. This event was important - it marked the end of the first part of Wright's career in Chicago; and it introduced his work in a major way to the Modern masters. There's a story that when the portfolio was published, Peter Behren's office took several days off to admire it (including the like of Mies Van Der Rohe and Walter Gropius). So while it's frustrating not being able to read the room names in English, it's a faithful reproduction in that way. (FLW's essay at the front is in English)Overall, even at a higher price I highly recommend picking up one copy for yourself. If you can get cheaper copies they make wonderful presents for anyone you know who is into architecture.

Amazing Book
It is the same drawings and introduction found in the 1910 Wasmuth Portfolio. Everything is crisp and in black and white print. And it is in English instead of the original German. It is a great book if you enjoy architecture in any capacity and like seeing hand drawn floorplans and perspectives.

A stunning architect and author just a huge book
Beautifully written and a stunning architect but make sure you read the dimensions! I didn't and I couldn't keep the book because it was too big for my table :(

Beautiful book
Wonderful reproduction of the original german publication, curated by Wright himself. It contains drawings and perspectives of the most representative residences from his early prarie period

Best $3.99 I’ve spent lately.
Best $3.99 I’ve spent lately. Love the unexpected larger scale of the book, the feel of the paper, and of course the fascinating content from the early career of FLW. Many elevations and floor plans for private homes. But also larger commercial and sacred spaces.

Great IF in English
A five star book of drawings, but copied from a German text. It could have been excellent, but lacks anything to make it suitable for a non-German speaker. No descriptions or suitable identification in English. Just high quality line drawings from a foreign book.

This book is a treasure
When I bought this book, I did it thinking in getting a good early works book. When I got it I was really amazed to be getting a reprint of the Wasmuth Portfolio of Wright early works. The drawings are just beautiful. Even if you are not an architect you can admire the draftmanship. I'm an architect and love it.
