Pretty solid Apple CarPlay head unit - recommended.
I’ve had this installed for a little over 2 weeks of daily use, so feel able to write a review. It’s been great so far. Details below.I research everything to death, and this brand came out near the top for reliability, features and customer support.Other options in the android head unit game tend to come direct from China. I have purchased from those shops before and had good experiences, but for this kind of value item it is a bonus that it can be purchased from Amazon in UK.I was coming from a JVC double din head unit of 10 years plus. Maps out of date long ago, and no CarPlay/Android Auto functionality, which is a must these days I feel. Needless to say this is a huge upgrade for my work van (Nissan NV200).Installation:Installation was quite straightforward, partly thanks to a very comprehensive manual in well written English, which isn’t guaranteed for all Chinese sourced products. That attention to detail helps Atoto’s reputation in the market.I am quite savvy technically and with DIY, so didn’t have too much issue. Main thing is to find your correct wiring harness adapter for your vehicle to connect everything up correctly. Google is your friend here. The main struggle I had was actually working out how to remove all the dash panels in my van, not much online for my vehicle (Nissan NV200).I have yet to solder in my steering wheel controls, so I may update this when done.Same with the reversing camera, hoping to install their HD03 camera soon which gives an exciting looking birds eye view when reversing. Will update review when that’s in.Apple CarPlay:As a window cleaner, I am in and out of the van frequently throughout the day, so wireless CarPlay was a must for me. This works pretty flawlessly. Super quick boot up and connection to phone, CarPlay being visible within around 8 seconds of engine start, which I think is great. And yes, the actual head unit starts at the advertised 2 seconds if having been used within a fairly recent period.I haven’t tested Android Auto as yet.Note: I have had a couple of hangs of the app that provides CarPlay, which makes it unresponsive until restarted, but on the whole very stable. Will update this review if it becomes a problem.Sound:Sound quality is certainly equal to JVC branded unit, plus even more bass which I had to turn down, easily done. Very detailed adjustment with their EQ settings and other adjustments too, more than I need. Great sound.Screen:Touch response is very quick, everything works smoothly.Image quality is sharp, don’t let the seemingly low 600p resolution fool you, this is plenty sharp enough for a 7 inch screen in a vehicle. If they put too high a resolution screen in, user interface elements would display too small to touch easily, unless a lot of software work went in.Brightness is fine also, definitely bright enough in most conditions I’ve found, and dims automatically when headlights are on if you have wired it correctly with the right adapter for your vehicle. Both of these brightness settings are easy to change.Overall image quality is very good.In conclusion, so far after 2 weeks I am very pleased with this head unit and would recommend to others. I will update the review when I’ve set up my steering controls and installed the HD03 reverse camera, and if anything changes in what I’ve written, but as of right now, I can wholeheartedly recommend this head unit. You get an awful lot of technology for your money compared to the main competition.Update: Jan 2024As promised, here is an update with my experience 6 months later.I have soldered in my steering wheel controls and these work flawlessly. Very happy, great user improvement in the van. Also I have purchased and wired in the Atoto AC-HD03LR reversing camera. This is very good, though not quite as useful as i would have hoped. I already have the factory reversing camera in the van, so was wanting this camera primarily for it's fancy feature of the bird's eye view looking overhead feature, where it captures your rear view with it's super wide 180 degree camera and an algorithm in the head unit converts it to a top down view, very cool. This feature does work, but I find at my normal reversing speed (fairly fast) it can't keep up, and maps everything a little distorted and out of scale, which defeats the point as a parking aid. If I reverse slower as I have had to on occasion in an awkward place, it works as expected, just wish it was all the time. I'm hoping a future firmware update will correct this.As to my overall experience of the unit in the 6 months I've used it, I am still very happy. Responsive, reliable and good sound. I mainly use Apple Carplay and this has been reliable and works very well with quick connection each trip. Very pleased.

Excellent quality
I fitted this in a Renault Trafic van, converting from the standard single DIN radio to this Atoto S8 double DIN unit. It is an exact fit in the facia that I had bought earlier. Extras I also bought were the reversing camera, the remote for function control in case the steering wheel stalk controls didn't work, a USB DAB receiver and a Connects2 interface adapter. It was fairly easy to fit if you have a bit of experience and follow the instructions. Once connected up, everything worked as it should do. even the stalk control buttons. Something to mention is that it is quite a small unit so there is plenty room behind it for the wiring. The optional remote works well, stuck to the dash. The audio quality and features are very good. There are lots of settings to play with and the user manual explains everything. The unit is fast and easy to operate. Wireless Apple car play was very easy to set up and works well. Sat nav is built into the unit and works. The USB DAB works very well using the original van antenna. The reversing camera is good and has the option of being full time rear view. All in all I was pleasantly surprised at how good this is.Highly recommended. To add - I found that Atoto have excellent customer service on their web site and I had a very high standard of assistance from a person called Lavender who helped with a question I had regarding the rear camera, answering very quickly.

Feature packed unit with excellent support!
The media could not be loaded. I opted to go for this unit due to the amount of features it offered, for me the importance of mutilple Media inputs was important as well as compatibility with Android phones. This unit does not disappoint, it runs off an android operating system and if you have an android phone or tablet it will be a familiar system to work with. Furthermore the instalation was straight forward, plug and play providing like me you have purchased the correct adapters and fascia harness for your specific car brand.Yu have android auto, navigation, phone connectivity and external microphone, 3 USB connections, a SD card slot, Wi-Fi, GPS antena, and supports rear camera input. The sound quality is definitely better than the standard unit which was in my car previously and made the speakers come alive. When I contacted Atoto support for a query they were friendly, supportive & helpful and provided enough guidance to assist me further with videos and useful links as well.Usually not one to spent time reviewing things to this extent but this unit is definitely worth it and overal I think it's reasonably priced considered the competition.Thank you

Promising Product - But Does Require Some Patience in Fitting
There are lots of things to like about the Atoto S8 Ultima (Gen2) car stereo.Mostly, I like having the ability to use a wide range of Android apps, and not being limited to a handful of 'CarPlay' or 'Android Auto' compatible apps. I like having offline maps capability, and native SatNav without the need to use my phone. It is a shame that you can't use the SIM Card in the device for phone calls or texts. The harness for some reason, didn't have the amplifier wired up, so I had to cannibalise the spare harness to rig up an extra pin, and after that, I felt confident splicing some of the other wires needed to get the steering wheel control, reversing camera and aerial fully working,In general, it's behaving very well, and I'm very happy with it. I have found a useful forum on XDA and now have registered my device, so hopefully I can get the last few niggles ironed out and have a fully functional system. The responsiveness, and boot up time are great. Bluetooth unlocking is great. Carplay works really smoothly. I just need to find a way to get the cars OEM bluetooth module to connect up properly with the head unit and all the important parts will be taken care of.
