This item is definitely Chris approved...
So my buddy Chris has recently gotten into pipe smoking. Many years back Chris picked up cigar smoking in part to support me so that we would have something to do in the rare moments we get to spend together. Recently he has picked up pipe smoking and so, to return the favor, I decided to give pipe smoking a fair shot. So, I went on Amazon and found a Sivaopa Churchwarden and then to an online tobacco shop for a few of the purest aged pipe tobaccos I could find. After both the original and the replacement pipes couldn't even be assembled before breaking, I picked up a $25 pipe at a local tobacco shop. Knowing nothing about pipes, or pipe smoking, it looked like a good deal. It had a metal insert in the bowl and had any elongated Churchwarden type stem (that I really like). I had a horrible experience. I could never keep the stupid thing lit, I'm convinced the draw was poor at the union of the stem and the bowl, and the entire experience was just fighting with the thing to even stay lit. I spent many days trying to figure out how to properly pack a bowl, how to properly light the thing, and how to draw it correctly...but I was very concerned that I would never like smoking a pipe.In sort of a last ditch effort before committing to buying a $200 craft pipe, I chose to get this set. This was partly due to the how the pipe looks, but mostly for the wax canvas pipe bag. Let me just tell you, this set turned the whole situation around. The pipe is polished and feels like a real quality item. It is not made out of briar, which I was concerned about (because all the best pipes are made out of briar) but it is well made and sturdy. I can't speak for it's durability but it fits in the hand perfectly, it has a really good clinch to it (how it feels when you're holding it only with your mouth), and is nice and deep for a good long smoke. When packed and lit, the draw is smooth and for the first time ever, I was able to smoke a pipe for an hour and 45 minutes only needing to light it four or five times. I actually got to sit back and enjoy smoking, rather than just being frustrated that I was having to fight it.The wax canvas pipe bag is a stand out item in this kit. It is absolutely fantastic and I absolutely love every little piece of it. If I could give this thing six stars I absolutely would. By itself, this pipe bag is worth the price that I paid for the whole kit.If you are looking into trying out a pipe, or a seasoned veteran looking for a good pipe bag, this set will absolutely not steer you wrong. I'm actually about to buy a second one and send it to my buddy Chris.

Great value! I haven't had a ew pipe in years and I had forgotten how enjoyable a pipe is when relaxing. This kit has everything you need to get back or get into this artful hobby. The carrying pouc I highly recommend.

Better than I expected? - YES!
This is my second product order from Whitluck's. I was very pleased and impressed with my first pipe/kit and very much desired a nice portable roll to carry my kit around but could not find one that appealed to me for a price I wanted to pay. I saw this one and since I had a good experience with the first kit that I purchased from them I bought this expecting more than meets the eye AND for the canvas roll as much as for the rest of the kit. With exception to one little bump that I'll speak to in a bit I have been thoroughly pleased with what I received. To me it was a bonus that this roll would hold two pipes and kit and I could have two pipes to rotate uses with since I already own one of their pipe kits. Of note is that the tool roll I received was more of an olive drab coloring than the desert tan coloring shown in their advertising. That didn't particularly matter to me so I made no issue of it but if you're color sensitive you might want to keep that in mind. Time and use will tell if this is just what I was looking for and can help me home in on what I may eventually seek out but for now and my currant usage this will be perfect. I prefer the rugged and course textures of this waxed canvas roll over say, something smooth and silky like a bag or purse style carrier. Judge for yourself based on the things you like to hold and use. Yes, I think I would prefer a nice thick leather roll but when you toss cost into the equation, this one came out the winner for me. The large pockets are very adequate for your tools, pipe cleaners and lighter, two pipes of similar size to the one included AND two nice pockets (one zippered) for your pipe weed or other essentials. None are lined so you will need a separate bag/container for your pipe weed. I really like the leather ring style pipe holder, even more so than the metal stand that came with my other Whitluck's kit. It just screams simplicity and rugged style. Also, grips the pipe gently and is more stable on some of my outdoor makeshift tables, like stumps, fences, rocks or whatever horizontal surface presents itself as handy when I'm out and about and want to sit and enjoy a bowl! The bits and bobs of the kit (filters, cleaners, multi-tamp-tool, screen balls) are essentially the same as from my other kit and you can see what I said about them on that other review. They work, they are fine but not particularly spectacular in any way other than they are simple and they work as intended which for me is a win. Now to circle back to the little problem I encountered. My pipe arrived flawed/cracked/imperfect. It IS a beauty to mine eyes mind you but there was a definite crack in the bowl. It was deep and wide enough that I could draw air through it when I covered the bowl and drew thru it. So, I reached out to Whitluck's. They responded to me practically immediately and are working to resolve it as I type. I am so certain that I'll be pleased with their resolution that I'm leaving them and this kit a 5-star review now, before the issue is finalized. It is pleasantly refreshing to find a retailer/supplier anymore that will stand behind their products like these good folks do. I mean, this is not some esoteric multi-hundred-dollar man-toy here we're talking about. It's a pretty inexpensive indulgence that most sellers would not make enough off of to even care if they had happy customers or not. Not the case with Whitluck's - they seem to genuinely care that their name is on these and want to make right any problems that arise. Hopefully others that have had a good customer service experience will also speak out with positive words for them standing out like they have for me. Thanks Whitluck's, I wish you a prosperous year with many happy customers to support you!

Nice starter set to learn the ropes
This is a very nice starter set for anyone looking to get into cigars. The bag itself is awesome. Delivery was fast and the box everything comes in was packed well. The pipe is nice but the bowl is a bit on the smaller side. Probably fine for a beginner but an experience piper may want something bigger. The pipe itself looks great, my only hesitation is the use of Ebony wood. I’ve read mixed reviews on using that for pipes.

I recommend!
If it available, I would give this 4 1/2 stars. Would absolutely recommend this kitto get started this is a great beginner kit, the pouch is great quality, and the leather stand is terrifically useful.Ive had it for close to a year now and i cannot remember if the first few smokes altered the flavor of the tobacco, but it certainly does not now.It is unfair to compare the pipe to the more expensive brands such as Peterson, Savinelli, or Stanwell, due to the price difference. However, I find that it tends to clog towards the end of the bowl (in a way my expensive pipes don't), but a few pokes with a pipe tool will clear it up quickly.
