My 2008 generator started acting up last winter. It was not running test cycles and had to be started manually when we lost power (what a pain). This spring I worked on it to no avail and burned up the starter (ok it didn't catch fire but it was smoking). I tried to get a service guy to come out, but they all wanted $250 just to come out to take a look (I would have paid it, but that was in addition to any repairs and parts, he gave me a phone estimate of over $500). Yea not happening. I got my possibly future son in law to help me remove the starter (not the easiest thing to get out). My wife and I removed the original battery and installed the new starter and battery and gave the Genny a tune up and oil change while we were at it. It now starts right up, does it's weekly test with no issues, and is running a lot smoother. I'm about average when it comes to mechanical things (I can change a battery, oil, and manage minor repairs). Swapping the starter is a pain as it is held in place (along with a spacer that falls off and into the bottom of the engine) with Allen bolts that are way too long and difficult to get out. THere is also the throttle springs over rev limiter that have to be removed and bend out of the way, but other than that it was a straight forward swap. Overall I'm glad I saved myself the $500 and now I'm ready for power outages.

I had a replacement refurbished starter from an auto parts store on my 13-year-old Generac. It did not fit well (did not come with shim kit) and did not throw the engine over, especially in cold weather. After two years replaced with this. Perfect fit per part number match, night and day performance.

Although this starter is listed as the correct replacement starter for my generator (Gn220), it is NOT strong enough to turn the flywheel on my generator fast enough to start it. It turns at 1/3 the speed as my old starter. It looks the same, but is a WEAK 3rd cousin. Unfortunately I didn't get to replacing my old starter before the 30 day return window closed so now I'm stuck with a starter motor that doesn't work. But, that's on me I guess. Still, the starter sucked and did NOT perform as it should have. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. There won't be a 2nd time.

This starter works very well on my 15 year old Generac generator 7K.

I bought this as a replacement for my Generac 8KW unit. Fantastic construction and came with all new hardware. It was a direct-fit replacement and my generator is finally back up and running. Great product - would buy again!

Simply did not have the power to turn over the engine fast enough to start. (even with a new fully charged battery) I sent it back and bought the Generac OEM at 3 times the price and installed the new oem today and what a huge difference. Save yourself a head ache and get the real Generac OEM.

My generator starter died last winter. This one installed perfectly and has been starting the generator the last few months with no issues. Awesome starter no problems with rated torque throws over my generator with vigor.
