Emotional rollercoaster

I really enjoyed how the theme of the whole book was still very gothic and dark. Although I will say be prepared to be taken on a huge emotional rollercoaster!I have to start off by saying that this book is disturbing. It is so much darker, and intense then the first book.It is a very complex read which delves into really heavy traumatic topics that can be huge triggers for individuals. I actually found some parts quite hard to read as they were so raw, dark and brutal, I felt my heart breaking multiple times and I actually teared up.Although just like the first book I wanted more and I needed to know about Adeline and Zades relationship!"𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙸 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚗𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚎𝚗𝚍, 𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚕𝚎 𝚖𝚘𝚞𝚜𝚎. 𝙰𝚗𝚍 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚗, 𝙸 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚝𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚎𝚛."Ive got to say I fell in love with Adeline and Zade even more throughout this book.Adeline truly goes through the most horrific, traumatic experiences any woman could go through but no matter what she never breaks fully and is determined to overcome what has happened to her. All of these absolutely horrific experiences were very key components, as you genuinely see her character grow even more and it’s amazingly gut wrenching and heartwarming all at the same time. I loved her character even more due to this, she turns into a bad ass woman that is so inspiring. I found the flash backs and coping mechanisms Adeline used post her experiences to come of as really realistic. Having realistic prospect ultimately allows the readers to be taken on the journey with Adeline and to connect to her and genuinely feel every emotion she feels. Now Zade… what can I say. I loved him so much in the first book and that has not changed at all. Zade remains the same haunting, dangerous figure that he did in the first book, and he will stop at nothing and I mean nothing to get Adeline back and to hurt the ones who hurt her. However, it seems that during this book we see another side to him. I feel like there were a lot more tender moments with him and at points we glimpsed this softer wiser side to him. Which provided a deeper insight to him and I’ve got to say I love this side to him just as much! However he does go back to the dark brooding shadow we have all come to love so much! And let me just say WOW, THANK GOD!!The side characters that were brought into this book just added so much reality and depth to the book. They are all key components and all played such a big role in shaping Adeline into who she becomes which is so realistic. As we all know the experiences we go through or people we meet in our lives, either fleetingly or permanently, shape us to the people we become.I’m actually quite sad that I won’t get to experience Adeline and Zade for the first time again, as I did enjoy reading their story. I don’t think I would reread this anytime soon only because it’s so dark and takes you on such an emotional rollercoaster.I still would highly recommend reading this duology. However this will definitely test your limits so I would STRONGLY suggest reading the trigger warnings at the start of each book before delving into Adeline and Zades world.

dark, twisted and divine
Brilliantly executed once again, it’s certainly darker than the first book but it’s so well written that you see past the bad and fall in love with Z all over again. Kitty cat and his little mouse are fantastic characters

Well, well, well.....
Well wasn't this darker than night! I enjoyed the story line in this and still loved the characters. Hands down have become a fan of this author! Was a good read but I think I preferred the first book.

Excellent dark romance
One of my fave books! I really advise reading the trigger warnings, they are for a reason.

can’t decide if I like it or not
Not bad but not great, got very repetitive.Liked the trauma stuff, realistic, but once she is free (not exactly a spoiler as would be a dumb book if she didn’t) - everything after was very meh. But the detail in the trauma and everything that happens and how she handles the trauma inside her is fantastic. I can’t decide if I like it or not

Exquisitely dark
This is the second book in the cat and mouse duo (Haunting Adeline being the first) and I read both consecutively, not able to put them down. This is not for the faint hearted and the warnings prior to it are extremely relevant. I smiled, I cried and I was enthralled from start to finish. This would make an excellent TV series and there is an opening, if H. D. Carlton ever desired to, to turn this into a trilogy. It's not often I leave reviews, but these books, these deserved one. I'm going to go to sleep now because the 1 more chapter before bed, turned into about 5!

Even better than the first book
I could not put this book down! That heart breaking moment when you see "2 months later" had tears in my eyes. A complicated love story not for the faint hearted!

Good book but poorly made
My daughter is loving the book but sadly page 449/450 fell out which is very disappointing for an expensive book
