The Paris of Appalachia: Pittsburgh in the Twenty-First Century

A personal glimpse of a beautiful place
I loved this book. Pittsburgh is my hometown, and although I moved away years ago, for many reasons discussed in this book, the "Burgh" will forever be "Home". Only a true Pittsburgher could write this book. I found myself nodding and smiling with each page. It made me home sick, and reminded me why I left all at once. This book is a true gem and it should be on the book shelf of anybody with connections to Pgh.

Might be Hope For the Yinzers - if -------
The Burg is a great city - one of the best, and a sometimes overwhelming surprise to first time visitors. It could be a really great city IF Pennsylvania would do away with its antiquated laws regarding municipal annexations and mergers. B. O'neill does a good job of highlighting a lot of what this city has going for it, and a lot of what it has going against it both from within and from out. My only criticism is that the book makes a good primer, but needs a significantly more in depth follow-up with some sound recommendations on what is being done, and what needs to be done to insure that "The Paris of Appalachia" regains its former position of one of America's top ten cities.
