Interviewing Users: How to Uncover Compelling Insights Paperback – Import, 1 May 2013

Just finished reading "Interviewing Users" by Steve Portigal and wanted to share my praise!As I spent the last year getting more comfortable in my role and speaking with users, this was the perfect book to read. I found the book to be incredibly practical. “Interviewing Users” was extremely descriptive regarding the soft skills of interviewing, working with others in the field, and conducting research for business impact.I particularly enjoyed the second chapter ‘A framework for interviewing’. Steve goes into delicate stages of the interview here. Such as the “tipping point” (when the interview transitions from a question-answer, to a question-story), effective rapport building through listening, and managing silences. These are all ways to make this unnatural experience of interviewing someone into a comfortable experience, encouraging them to be the experts.Overall, I would highly recommend this book to people conducting any type of qualitative research. Whether it is for UX or Market research, the book covers how to optimize the flow of the interview and all the things that come before and after. Plus there are small excerpts from different professionals in the field sharing their personal experiences.

Passez son chemin sur cet article, c'est une édition de 2013, vous pouvez le trouver bien moins cher ailleurs ... livre utile en dehors de ce point, mais 20€ de plus pour une soit disant édition de 2019 (comparé à une édition de 2013), c'est de l'arnaque. Be careful! :)

Steve is an entertaining author. He writes with the reader in mind. This is a great book as an intro or a refresher about interviewing people.

Libro molto interessante ed utile su come organizzare a condurre interviste con gli utenti.Il libro affronta il tema in maniera approfondita in tutte le sue fasi: da tutti gli aspetti dell'organizzazione pre-intervista, al momento dell'intervista in tutti i suoi aspetti, al dopo intervista, analisi dei dati e presentazione dei risultati.Caldamente consigliato a chi vuole migliorare la sua capacita' di condurre interviste con utenti / potenziali utenti.

This book is very insightful, it looks beyond interviewing for user research, and brings up important ideas around interpersonal communication (like the importance of silences in a conversation).Recommend to anyone interested in effective face-to-face communication.
