Not as useful as a metal rule for drawing parallel lines
I originally bought this ruler to help with drawing guide sheets for calligraphy. Guide sheets require drawing many parallel lines, and I tried it out with this tool. Unfortunately, I found that it was less useful than a much cheaper metal ruler for a few reasons:1. The parallel ruler can only slide about 2 inches before you need to manually reset the roller for measuring between lines. This is tedious.2. The edge of the ruler is plastic (albeit high quality plastic). This makes it a little less accurate in my opinion.3. A good metal ruler will have cork backing, so that the ruler does not slide around as you are tracing your line. This ruler is intentionally designed to roll, and so getting it to stay still takes some practice and is also tedious.Overall, if you're just hoping to draw evenly spaced parallel lines, you are better off getting a metal ruler and using the dot and connect technique. It will be both easier and faster.

Not too durable…
The ruler appears nicely made with smooth corners and edges. There were no molding marks or distortions in the plastic and all the markings were clear and legible. However, I dropped it from my desk onto a concrete floor (30.5”) and it broke in to two pieces across the body. I also noticed that the black, hard plastic rollers on the ends of the graduated cylinder did not grip paper well and the ruler required pressure greater than it’s own weight to keep the cylinder moving. However, too much pressure and the rollers would lock up because they were pressed against bottom of the plastic covering around the cylinder. In the end, the ruler was a nice idea, but this one requires more attention and care to use than the convenience it provided. I may try another model, just not this one again.
