I got this book after my first visit to France. I must say it’s easy and simple to follow. They also include tapes to you can get your pronunciation correct and also have groups that you can join to help in the experience. I have just started, but so so good! SAu revoir !

I haven’t studied French for some time but reading this book brought it all back to me. So many fond memories of my high school classes came to mind as I dusted off my French and was surprised I even remembered how to conjugate some verbs.I really like that this book has a mix of exercises, from translations and multiple choice to fill in the blank. If you are new to French, this book is a great way to get started and will teach you everything you need to know.The instructions aren’t that long so you don’t get bogged down in all the grammar, just the essentials you need to know. Then it’s right into the practice so you start learning immediately.I also like all the white space on the pages and the layout which isn’t overwhelming. I was also impressed at all the different topics covered. By the end of the book you’ll have a great understanding and be able to comprehend a lot.The only thing I would change would be to put the answers toward the end. In the eBook they came right after the exercise so it was tempting to cheat and glance at them right away. Of course it’s hard to flip between pages in digital form, so putting them at the end of the chapter or including a footnote to flip back and forth could help.

The study book is pretty good for the most part. It talks to you like a native speaker would and helps you grasp why this is wrong and why that is right. However, I don't think the editor did a fantastic job with the amounts of typos I detected all throughout. For a language book, the study book should be 100% error free. After all, you are going to be using this newly learned language when you travel, speak with family or friends, and maybe even for work.The audio tracks that are included are quite helpful to solidify pronunciation and accent sounds. The only quarrels I have with it are the typos and lack of illustration to brighten the book a little more for visual learners. But overall, I recommend it for beginners who want to learn the basics and become proficient over time.

I do a section a day and it's perfect for keeping up on my french grammar!

I am a French speaker and bought this book for use in homeschooling my children (ages 9 to 13), who already know some basic French. While I like the organization and simplicity of this workbook, the text needs to undergo several rounds of editing to address various errors and inconsistencies. For example, Exercise 10.1 incorrectly states "elle a conduisait trop vite" instead of "elle a conduit" (or, possibly, elle conduisait). There are a number of other oversights like this throughout the book. Further, the text is heavily written from the male perspective. All examples in the first person singular subjective pronoun (je) are written as masculine. There are also significantly fewer examples of sentences in the third person feminine voice. In the 21st century, especially with there now being even nonbinary pronouns to choose from, it's sad to see a book so blatantly espousing the "male" voice as the dominant paradigm. Overall, I still find this book useful for reviewing the main talking points with my children; I use it as a general framework for our discussion, but I must fill in much of the unstated context for them--drawing from my own background in the language. However, if you do not already know at least a moderate amount of French, you may be frustrated by the oversimplicity of this text and the lack of direct translations and further background explanations behind the syntax. If you already speak French somewhat fluently (maybe with at least two full years of prior study) then you might still enjoy this book as a quick and simple "refresher" on the key grammatical points.

This book has been the most useful text in my studies on the French language, yet. With comprehensive examples, dynamic exercises, and digestible organization overall, I highly suggest including this in your journey. French can grow to feel overwhelming as one dives further into the practical use of it, especially if there is a time crunch for overseas travel. With both a hardcover copy and an audible option, I have personally found this book to be the most useful for impromptu improvement. While I am still not fluent in dialogue, I notably feel 10x more confident communicating on the basics, as well as comprehending them. In fact, I think that’s been the most immediate benefit from using this text as a French study guide— comprehension. I suggest, though, printing out cheat sheets from audible purchases in the case of going abroad while still lacking confidence in comprehension. For that reason alone, the book is worth the investment.

Great book

The book is a must have! The explanations are clear and concise, making complex grammar rules easy to understand. The exercises at the end of each chapter reinforce learning effectively. This book is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to improve their French language skills. Highly recommended!

I purchased this book as an aid to my Duolingo course. The grammar has become confusing and is hindering my progress. This book has helped me a lot and I'm just half way through. I also bought the intermediate book. Highly recommended for language learning.
