Superbly written guide by the inventor of Mathematica himself, Stephen Wolfram
Wolfram writes clearly and concisely and demonstrates the power of symbolic computation. Seemingly arcane commands are clearly explained and introduced step-by-step, thus making combined commands easy to understand, not to mention easy to appreciate their power. i have been a user of Mathematica from its inception and the genius behind the growing language is just phenomenal. It is not necessary to know a great deal of commands in order to write powerful programs. Trott wrote a number of programing books for Mathematica many years ago. Updates of these books are needed to make his books cleaner with new commands available. Wolfram in this book just touches the tip of the iceberg.

Does it work for you? Yes
It was a good introduction.

The depth of the material
OK ... the book had a disadvantage ... I have had prior experience with Mathematica (10 + years before) and I wanted to do some programing so I felt the book would be a great way to bring me back ... well it was too beginning. I quickly (the book as well) brought me to speed (not where I wanted) but up to the level of the book. So for that reason I did not go beyond 3 stars.

language which is most efficient
Good overview of the possibilities; emphasis on simplicity; very good lay-out.Real good voor high tech purpose.

The title says it all.
To get anything substantial from this book you have to do the exercises. I'm about a fourth of the way through the book and am getting the hang of the Wolfram language.

Excellent introduction.
It is only an introduction. A full description of the Wolfram language would much, much longer. It’s from Wolfram, so you would expect it to be excellent. And it is.

It could be the next gen but now is locked for money.
This book is free online on Wolfram website. They are onto something here... Worth reading it!

A thorough summary of the Wolfram language
The book is a thorough summary of the Wolfram language which is simultaneously accessible to those with little computer programming experience and detailed enough to be interesting and useful to professional programmers.

Thank you, Stephen Wolfram!
Being an opensource developer I very rarely praise commercial products, but Wolfram Mathematica is truly an exception. It is most certainly a software masterpiece and Stephen Wolfram's style of describing it (as a "latin textbook", so he says in the Preface) is very appropriate for teaching the language with such a massive number of possibilities and applications. I have read his original "The Mathematica Book" (5th edition) and it was also done in the same style, only in more detail (but that book is outdated --- buy this one instead!). Namely, the author is methodically going over much of the core Wolfram Language, gradually building complex constructs on the basis of simple ones, as one should.Even though I own the electronic version of this and many other books about Wolfram Mathematica, I gladly bought the printed version of An Elementary Introduction to the Wolfram Language. Not only because it is convenient to have (and to help teaching my daughters Wolfram Language) but also because unlike many other books it doesn't contain the disgusting notice on the second page about "not redistributing the book". On the contrary, it encourages such re-distribution by using the Creative Commons License and they also provide an online interactive version of the book at their website. In summary, I highly praise and recommend this book and the Wolfram Mathematica software which Stephen Wolfram has generously made available for free on the Raspberry Pi platform. Thank you!

Superb!
Need I say more. If you have bought Mathematica, you will want this book. It will help you get so much more out of Mathematica.

Fondamentale per iniziare ad usare Wolfram Mathematica
Il libro è scritto molto bene ed è molto chiaro, ritengo sia fondamentale per iniziare ad utilizzare Wolfram Mathematica (d'altronde è scritto dal suo inventore)
