Fantastic range of capabilities in a well-curated package of features
I was happier than I imagined I would be when I unboxed the Andonstar AD249S--kind of giddy--discovering all the feature value included for the cost in such an approachable package. For background, I am an engineering professional with pretty keen curiosities and often exacting standards. Beyond a handful of handheld "microscope" magnifiers in the 30-120x range, I had long been missing the capabilities this unit provides. I will be satisfied by this for some time for my personal use (microscopy is not a part of my professional life at this stage).Generally, each part is generally a well-designed balance of quality and cost. Connoisseurs of microscopy may find the approach too casual. But that's exactly what I appreciate: I can explore so much more of the world without an investment in overpriced, heavy traditional apparatus. The picture and optical quality are excellent. I don't have to strain my eye staring into a tiny hole! The display has many useful features--SD card memory, recording and static photos right from the screen, even WiFi?! (I haven't explored that one yet) The lens assembly has openings for two additional lenses... I'm curious to see what can be fitted.Assembly was pretty easy and straightforward and I felt the pictorial guide was pretty good. The whole thing is powered by USB--I even ran it off a USB power bank! So mobility becomes an interesting featureI have only two small complaints. First, there's a bit of play in the stage adjustment assembly which makes adjustment at the highest magnification difficult. This is nothing a little thought and minor modification on my part won't mitigate. The second concerns the bright field ("condenser") light: it seems very limited in brightness and does not project what I would expect. This may be unique to my unit. The USB plug-in lamps are much brighter. Also, I may not have the correct plastic disc cover for the condenser as described in the documentation: the semi-translucent disc is a bit too opaque to then project up to the stage, and I don't have a fully transparent disc. (I'm pretty sure I can fix these issues without too much effort.)Otherwise, the bang for the buck is astronomical, in my opinion. Very easy and very satisfying to use! Definitely worth it. One of my favorite buys.

Tiny learning curve- still worth it!
Great microscope, it does have a slight learning curve given it has a screen. Overall I’d recommend it especially to diverse homeschool families, like mine that do science and electronics that need good magnification. Well worth the price for beginners and Intermediate.

company blames buyers for microscope malfunction
Got my microscope setup and first thing I noticed is it's a little wobbly, but not a huge deal. I have actual slides I want to look at, not just their toys, but the image through the pre-installed A lens is smaller that I wanted. So I install the lens turret to look at my slides under the B/C lenses (did not actually realize all 3 aren't on the turret together) and this is when I discover that the turret does not actually rotate the lenses. The only way I can use them is to manually unscrew and swap them into location. My specimen looks fine through the B lens, but the C lens absolutely can't find a focus point. I wrote to Andonstar through amazon, and they quickly responded requesting videos of these problems. I sent Customer Support 3 videos to show them that the turret doesn't rotate the lenses, that I can see my image in the B lens, and that I can't see my image in the C lens. They responded that I actually needed to email Customer Sales. So I forwarded my email to Sales, who has responded simply that I'm doing it wrong and actually accusing me of manipulating the viewing through the C lens and that there should actually be no problem.Do yourself a favor and spend your $200 somewhere else!

GREAT for older kids/teens
My 14yo got this for his birthday this year. He uses it constantly and it has been an awesome for of entertainment. He looks at bugs, fibers, plants, invertebrates from our pond, and even blood cells. We’re checking out a bug, maybe a parasite, coming out of a dead wasp in this picture.

Although it is plastic construction, it will work and deliver with practice.
AD 246 LCD Microscope with 7” monitor sale price $129Optics and images and colors are very good. The lighting does brighten and dim with the wired on/off pod. Remote control needs firmware fixes because all user selectible features including date/time reset every time unit is turned off. Then other features such as contrast, range, negative image, image rotate, image brightness, cross-hairs, and digital zoom only work for video mode and will reset like date and time do and are not accessible in photo mode where you need to use them the most. The firmware is AD246 20210618 V3.7. that needs to be fixed. The low power (A) objective magnification range is 13 to1 (see it in silver dollar images) depending where unit is clamped to bar. Lowest power FOV is 1 1/2” X 1 1/16” with lens (A). Had to make a 6”extension bar to fit in a whole silver dollar with lens (A). Lens C does make 1000X from actual size to size viewed on a 21” monitor. Recommended add-ons are USB power block and XY mechanical stage (~$25) for the 2 higher power objectives (B) and C.The value is there based on the 3 objective lenses with video viewing and image capture. Wish the remote made sense.

Microscopio digitale

The media could not be loaded.

Andonstar: just doesn't work!
I bought this for my wife as a Christmas gift: she's vert keen on learning to identify lichen. We've assembled the microscope with care (even though the instruction are sketchy in places), and switched on. We can get an imagre on the digital screen, and then it freezes. Every time! There is a re-set process to follow, and I've done that several times, but we cannnot get beyond this stage. We've found a telephone number for Andonstar (one of your reviews suggests that they are very quick to respond), but we can't get an answer. Seriously disappointed!

Great picture quality, shame about the build
The picture on the monitor is very good and the range of adjustments is good, very good quality screen. Saying that, the specimen stage is very flimsy with a lot of unwanted play. When your trying to adjust the focus the item your viewing completely goes out of view. Overall, once it's focused, it's a good quality picture and the image detail is fantastic but the the experience of adjusting it is exstremly frustrating and takes all the pleasure out of it. Really not worth the money paid.
